I am intrigued by the idea of the movie starting in NY and ending in a village in Tamil Nadu, though I hope Gautam Menon doesn't screw it up. Kaaka Kaaka was way too slick and stylish, and also derivative of HW films.

Kamal’s new film launched!
By Moviebuzz
Monday, 11 April , 2005, 11:55

Vettayadu Vilayadu- that’s the title of Kamal new film to be directed by stylish director Gautham Menon. The film was launched today (April11) at the Mowbrays Hall at Park Sheraton in Chennai at 10 am.

This time Kamal is playing safe with a pucca Tamil title to please the Tamil chauvinists who are against having English titles for films. Says Gautham: “It was my dream since the age of 10 to direct Kamal Haasan. Vettayadu Vilayadu is a police story and I have completed the script. Kamal does not want to divulge any information about the story”.

The Kuthuvilakku was lighted by ‘Captain’ Vijaykanth along with heroine Jyothika, cameraman Jeeva, music director Harris Jayaraj and others. The guest list also included Surya, choreographer Brinda and Satyajyothi Thyagarajan.

Said Kamal: “Film making has not been a smooth sail for me and every film is like dream for me. I am happy that I had the opportunity to work with directors of three generations. This is a very ambitious project for me”.

Vettayadu Vilayadu is said to be a racy thriller in which Kamal plays his age and the first half is set in New York, second half in Chennai and the climax in a remote village in Tamilnadu. The shooting will start from April 23.

Oscar Ravi to the rescue?
By Moviebuzz
Friday, 19 August , 2005, 09:43

Gautham Menon can heave a sigh of relief as ‘Oscar’ Ravichandran is rumoured to have taken over as the new producer of Vetayadu Vilayadu.

This ambitious project of Gautham and Kamal Hassan was orphaned after its original producer Kaja Moideen went bankrupt and was in the news after an attempted suicide.

As a part of the deal, Ravi will also produce another film with Kamal Hassan titled, Dasavatharam to be directed by K.S.Ravikumar. In this rip-roaring satire, Kamal will play 10 roles something similar to what Sivaji Ganesan did in that classic Navarathri.

Some of the characters that Kamal will play are George Bush, Osama Bin Laden, Saddam Hussain and a few other characters which is a closely guarded secret.

Dasavatharam is said to be the most hilarious script in recent times. Kamal and Ravikumar combination is sure to make it a sparkling entertainer. The film will release for 2006 summer.

All KSR-Kamal movies are hollywood copies. Dasavatharam is definitely set to be a confusing comedy, but bush and osama are just rumours. dont take it seriously.

good news is that Gautham is coming here next month and I am going to meet him. May be I can convince him to sack Kamal and replace with me!!!

Kamal is also coming the month after for shooting and have plans to meet both of them.

From what i gather - only hardcore fans of Kamal seem to be intersted in it - i saw it and though it was badly done ( Comedy films involving kamal need Crazy Mohan dialogs !)

20 years later, an upcoming director will make the same movie, probably making some corrections (manisha part specially) and make it a commercial success movie. Just like the way Guna-Kadhal Kondaen was made.

Tamil movie audiance is 10 to 15 years behind KH's thinking. Some ppl call KH thinking as inspiration from hollywood. Either way, there is a big gap.

If you know tamil very well, rent tamil version. Hindi version comedy is very low compared to tamil.

If you dont know tamil and hindi, stay away.

I saw Nizhalgal today and what a class movie. Well, IR did some wonderful BGM in this and is used in MX during the crane scene. If you havent seen Nizhalgal, please watch this first. In a way it is IR-BR story only, but the ending is different. Good one.

Kamalinee is Kamal’s heroine!
By Moviebuzz
Tuesday, 10 January , 2006, 11:34

Kamalinee Mukherjee, the Bengali beauty is Kamal Hassan’s second heroine in Gautham Menon’s Vetayadu Vilayadu.

Kamalinee is basically a theatre personality and Bharatnatyam dancer from Kolkota. She has modeled for Parachute hair oil, Fair and Lovely and Ayush shampoo in Mumbai.

Noted actress and director Revathy gave her the big break as Shilpa Shetty’s younger sister in Phir Milenge. Later she did Sekhar Kanmula’s critically acclaimed Telugu film Anand which was a big hit.

Her latest release in Telugu is Style with Prabhu Deva and Lawrence. Now Vetayadu Vilayadu will be her big break in Tamil and she has a very crucial role in the film.

Trailer looks quite good (very hollywood), no wonder the original producer tried to commit suicide!

The rapping lyrics were crap, but at least the singer could rap (well almost) and was miles better then the usual crap you hear these days on Indian soundtracks.

VV songs

I like VV better than many HJ albums, even if he reuses some tunes here and there, which he has the tendency to do. In the song Neruppe one part is a reuse of the qawwali tune from Ullam Ketkume, for example. I like Karka Karka (even with the rapping) and Manjal Veiyil the best out of the album. The problem with the rapping in HJ's and Yuvan's (with Premji) music is that they try to be bad-ass with it but it just feels silly. Blaaze's raps can be silly too, but he's not trying to be hardcore with them. They're purposefully kind of goofy.

Overall its not as good as Gajini or Anniyan, and definitely not as good as Minnale, 12B, or Kaaka Kaaka, but its good for a few listens.

I like the new soundtrack - kudos to HJ (after the excellent Anniyan, Gajini & Totti Jaya soundtracks), but credit must go to Menon, he seems to know what he wants.

You should check out Yuvan's new score "Pattiyal" the hip-hop beats are so raw and energetic. He has even managed to get proper rappers - with exception to one track which has a remix done by the awful Premji. But you could always exclude that track when uploading the whole album onto your I-pod.
