IMO - IR & ARR are two sides of a coin called TFM, one cannot exist without the other & have implicitly influenced each other. I am not going to compare & contrast them, both are important artist and are "trend-setters”, I am just glad to live in a era where both these artist are/were at their prime and further happy to realize that both have their common grounds rooted in Tamil.

One more thing IRs melodies are very predictable in how they're gonna progress... Like there is a certain chord variation you can almost always expect from IR.

If you have some time, listen to chapters 35 to 42 in bbc "Paatrondru Kettaen" to understand who is IR.

If you dont have time to go thru all the chapters, just listen to Andhi Mazhai Pozhigirathu from Raaja Parvai and tell me. It starts with western and during charanam its classical carnatic and then hindustani followed by Ghazal.

I can point out thousand more (not 100s) songs, but thats not the point here. IR is at his retirement state and you cant expect him to "innovate" more for TFM. Wait for his next non filmi album Moods Of Illayaraja and tell me about it. I listened to the samples and its breathtaking.

Dont expect IR to do anything for TFM, cuz for the current set of movies, we dont need IR. In the last few years, tell me one movie where you see the need for good music. To me Pithamagan, Ramana & Virumandi were three movies where IR was a must but other than those, none of hte other movies require IR music.

The only other movie IR could have been used was for Kannathil Muthamittal, but ARR has done a wonderful job there, specially in BGM so didnt felt the abcense of IR there.

After seeing Ramana, I also thought that Shankar could have used IR for his movies, cuz when people think about shankar movies, they think about ARR songs only, but not the movie, but with IR, they would have felt the movie no the songs.

Good thoughts are companions forever opens up S. J. Surya while giving a tip off about his Aa Aah which is slated to be released this month. Aa Aah is all about the happy re-union of the mutually longing lovers. What he says unlike New this is not that hot and spicy. This one of the moderate kind as Vali or Kushi. And he declares that audience right from 6 to 60 would enjoy seeing the movie. Kudos that’s a great spirit he is carrying about the pictures welcome among the audience.

New was almost 3 hours of SJ Surya touching Simran inappropriately. So I am pretty sure Ah..Aah is going to be 3 hours of SJ Surya touching the girl who looks like Simran inappropriately.

I wonder who told him his face is good for cinema.

Non-bailable warrant issued against S J Suryah

Monday, 22 August , 2005, 16:18

Chennai: A local court on Monday issued a non-bailable warrant against well known film director-actor S J Suryah relating to creating a ruckus at the Regional Censor Board office over his banned film New.

When the case came up for hearing before the 14th Egmore Metropolitan Magistate Govindarajan for examination of witnesses, Suryah’s counsel filed a petition under Sec 317 of CrPC seeking to dispense with his personal appearance.

The court, however, rejected the petition and adjourned the case to September six after issuing the NBW.

The film was banned by the Madras High Court recently, with a direction that the police was free to proceed against the director, who had created a scene after a member of the Censor Board refused to grant permission for including an additional song sequence on the ground that it was obscene in nature.

While screening the song before the Regional Censor Board in August last year, the director had allegedly withheld the portions already censored by the Mumbai Board and contended that only one ''cut'' was made in it.

Censor Board Member and a practising High Court Advocate Vanathy Srinivasan objected the inclusion of the song sequence following an argument ensued.

In the melee, the director had allegedly thrown his mobile phone at the Censor Board Member, in which she escaped unhurt.

Following her complaint, the Nungambakkam police registered a case and filed the chargesheet.

Apart from Vanathy, Censor Board Assistant Regional Officer Dhanasekar, Office Assistant Rajan and film editor Krishnamoorthy were cited as witnesses in the case.

Three of the four witnesses, except Krishnamoorthy appeared before the court. As Suryah did not appear, the Magistrate took a serious view and issued the non-bailable warrant directing the police to arrest and produce the director before the court, and adjourned the matter to September six.

I saw "Paavai Vilakku", starring Sivaji. What a lame movie. I would rate this movie as "Andha Kaalaththu New". I cant beleive that it is a story that came in Kalki magazine and someone actually was impressed with this and made a movie out of it. The story revolves around a man, who is jobless, had no goals in life, has no interest in anything [and Shivaji did act very well, given the fact that he is a "nadai pinam"] and the incidents [Women, not 1, but 4 + 1] that happened in his life.. What a shame movie. I cant believe Shivaji even accepted to do this role!

I saw Aa Aah yesterday. It is definitely a better movie than any of the recent crap in Tamil. The ending was very predictable so it didnt surprise me at all.

The presentation of the movie (till the climax, which you know was THE obvious climax!) was good. SJS prepared us with an intro. With out the intro from SJS, the movie would have been a "mess".

Songs are very good (much better than hearing alone!). There is very little that ARR can do on BGM and he did very well. Few BGM are foot tapping melody by themselves.

overall, it is definitely worth watching (not buying).

DVD is expected tomorrow/day after for official sale! DVD is released by VGP, they screwed up Arindhum Ariyamalum but they did a reasonable job this time (equal to new ayngaran quality!)
