Shankar will probably suffer a heart attack after watching this dvd. All that money spend on screen gone to waste. :x :?

BTW we have released VCD and the PQ is much better than this crap. I can definitely see the roses.

So is this happening ?? , are we going to get an Aygaran version in the US atleast - i broke down and saw this on a DVD-RIP of pyramid DVD, my local indian store guy is brilliant - he buys one orginal, makes dupes and rents out the dupes , thats pretty novel !

Anyways my impression on the movie was not good - i actually had an headache after seeing it and i am going to blame it on the pyramid DVD instead of shankar, would like to see it again on a better version.

No, blame it on shankar.

BTW, is it legal to make copies and rent out?

Yeah i probably will blame it on Shankar - the only saving grace of the movie was Vikram - otherwise everything else is forgettable, someone aptly called it 'Indian Reloaded'.

I am pretty sure its illegal..., though i have no solid info. I thought it was a pretty neat idea for him to make dupes and rent it out - very very cost effective & makes perfect sense

So is there going to be an Ayngaran version?? I was hoping for extras...Screw the extras...just need a neat dvd.

I enjoyed the film so much that I saw it 3 times in theater. One time i did see a vcd version...and I didn't like the movie. So dvdsoil, i think you should not blame Shankar...it was a well made movie overall.

kchan

I know the taste of dvdisoil so he wont like it, but I too liked it and I saw once in theatre and once in a GOOD VCD. Infact the VCD packaging was the best I have seen and I hope Ayngaran come up with good packaging.

dvdisoil, your locals are slow  mine have been doing it for many years now. they even record them to VHS themselves.

dvdunlimited, it's completely illegal to copy commercial discs, without the consent of the copyright holder. but you may proceed with Eros/VideoSound/Most Hindi. Just don't do it with good companies like iDream and Ayngaran(hopefully they will become better, SOON) and even KAD (gotta understand their market is poor).

Anniyan, If it's like Indian, I've seen many other films like it, and don't mind seeing another one like it :)

Anniyan is very derivative, but I enjoyed it anyways.

I really wanted to enjoy this one but either shankar or the DVD failed me :) and i think i am going to put the blame on shankar - i think in this case both the content and style took a beating.

Shankar's films are usually psuedo-socialist a.ka. he starts of with an interesting premise and spins a story around it. ANNIYAN is no different and hence it "starts" to intrigue you - the key difference between INDIAN and ANNIYAN is that in the later he focuses the blame on the 'common' man instead of the bureaucrats - a welcome thought I think. But thats where ANNIYANs strength stops unfortunately :( , the execution is lacking thoroughly

- Improper song placement and bad BGM ( it sucked !)
- Fight sequences were out-of-synch (the big 'kung-fu' sequence is a waste i think) serves no purpose, the characters don’t "need" the scenes but rather they "run-into-them"
- the interrogation with prakash raj reminds me of the Indian scenes ( with father son)
- the way police appear as "normal" folks warrants an explanation - they say they want to mingle with the crowd but from what i remember they dont talk with even a single commoner !
- huge plot holes ( esp. ANNIYAN/AMBI receving such media publicty , seems to be ignored after he gets released from the mental institute)

I can prob list numerous such thing that caused failure in my eyes but it think the biggest failure of ANNIYAN is not the "questions" it raises but the "solutions" it provides - we all know 'problem' exists in society and would welcome a more sensible solution to it. unfortunately shankar's solution relies on "fear" , he seems to expect that "fear" will control society, which I cannot accept. I think shankar is deeply mistaken on the social-framework on which socities are built - fear merely leads to hatred not social order .

Here’s hoping some-one-out-there gives a more sensible rendition of social problems and more importantly possible solutions to it.

And here's hoping for a better version of the DVD

Just saw Anniyan. I really liked Vikram as Ambi. I thought everything else was crap. The whole Remo act was gay! Anniyan character didn't interest me much. IMO, the songs weren't worth listening to and the pictrization doesn't help it. I don't think I will even bother checking out the Ayngaran dvd.

I'll watch Indian or Gentleman over this anyday!

Unfortunately a lot is expected from directors like Shankar and Mani Ratnam. Maybe they are under a lot of pressure and end up making crappy movies once in a way.

You call anniyan crappy? Then what are the rest of the 100s of the movies made in India?

I feel pity for those who couldn't see it in theaters and saw some crappy vcd version and then complain about the movie...:D

I mean who cares about the story yaar....movies r 2 be enjoyed. If u dont enjoy then stop wasting your money...;)

This is one of those films I enjoyed despite itself. The idea of vengeance based on a religious text is from Se7en, the fights are nicked from HK films, and the whole idea of killing people because they cook bad train food or will take a bribe at the music academy (though he didn't kill him) is extreme, the music was mediocre, but I liked the film anyways.

Remo was so mannered and over-the-top that it was funny. I don't know if that was the intent, but his scenes were comedic for me.

"Pseudo-socialist" is right. Shankar's films purport to have some meaning in them, but he wraps the (flimsy) message in so much masala and noise that it totally negates the meaningful aspect of the film.

My opinion could change if I watch it again. I might just end up hating it like I do all of Shankar's films.
