I am not even sure what that means arsh
but as far as remakes are concerned, many great directors have remade their fav old classics - da palma remade ‘scarface’, soderbergh remade ‘solaris’ and ‘ocean’s 11’, miike remade ‘graveyard of honor’, scorsese remade ‘cape fear’….an the list goes on
and plus this is not going to be another curry western but a modern update set in bumbai
and heck.. taking old western plots and turning them into modern day crime/drama has been done a lot in hollywood with great results (‘taxi driver’ was modern update of ford’s ‘the searchers’)
even in bollywood (remember ‘zanjeer’)
thus ramu’s ‘sholay’ project definitely looks promising…and he rarely disappoints
Mola - Perhaps "remakes" are not necessarily a bad thing ( and you have given fine examples for those) . I see remakes as the current wave thats sweeping the world-of-cinema just like the neo-realist movement of the 50's or the new-wave of the 60s , Good or bad - Time and People will decide.
My relationship with Ramu has been on a steady decline over the past few years with every new film he has come out with (Bhoot was not "ramu-worthy") . Ramu in a way reminds me of tarantino - both didnot goto film school, they learnt the craft from watching films, while Taranitno is obsessed with east-asia , ramu is attached to the underworld. Both of these filmmakers ( I think) are now going through a phase of creative-bankruptcy - they seem to now make films as "homage" to the films they have seen and that is "cool" only to a certain extent. Hopefully both (esp. Ramu, because he is a 'giant' in Indian cinema) come out of this cocoon and start 'making' movies instead of mass-producing them.
I don’t think I share the same enthusiasm with you guys on this project and I have my doubts if this will come through - but still lets see how this pans out (BTW I hope no one dares to remake Pyaasa !) .
alas!! I thought though that we still have some directors left to turn to!
But SLB..went, flashy, glossy, Ramu..went factory way to underworld, VVC is also going flashy, remakes, factory way!Farhan I dont count him, after only one film! he went down!
Ashutosh..combined with Ghaii, going grandious Jodha Saga with big wigs !!
Any Original, daredevils left?

I dont think so..
Remake, Sholay, remake mughl e azam just easy way out!! to cash on old sentiments with new technology..
