Anurag Kashyap hopeful 'Black Friday' will be released
IANS
Monday, April 18, 2005

Despite both his films "Black Friday" and "Paanch" not yet being released, director Anurag Kashyap has not lost hope.

"Everything has been going wrong in all the projects I attempted so far but I am optimistic that this phase will end soon," says the director.

A poll campaign that the director's friends initiated for the release of "Black Friday" is reported to have got 86 percent of people expressing a desire to see it. The Bombay High Court has stayed the release of the film, based on the Mumbai blasts of 1993.

Kashyap says it is a great effort by his friends but would not help much in the courts. "Signature campaigns and polls cannot be upheld in courts but it was nevertheless great to know that there are so many who want to see the film," he said.

The director says he has started working on the script of his next film. "It is the best thing to do under the circumstances. If you allow things to take their own course, nothing can disturb your equilibrium," he said.

High court stay on 'Black Friday' upheld
IANS
Thursday, April 21, 2005

The Supreme Court Thursday declined to vacate the stay imposed by the Bombay High Court on the release of the film "Black Friday", based on a book relating to the 1993 serial blasts in Mumbai.

While declining to stay the high court judgement, a bench of Chief Justice R.C. Lahoti and Justice G.P. Mathur, however, issued notice to the blast accused, on whose petition the high court restrained the producer from releasing the film.

The Bombay High Court had stayed the release of the film till the judgement in the 1993 bomb blasts case was delivered by the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act (TADA) court.

The high court had passed this order while allowing a petition filed by a group of 1993 blast accused, challenging the release of the film contending that its release before the trial court judgement could prejudice the case.

The high court held that since the film was based on the bomb blast incidents, the producer should wait till the pronouncement of the judgement by the trial court. Only after the trial court delivered its judgement could the film be released.

The producer challenged this order contend.
