Any idea, who will crucify this film on dvd? :(

Would they be able to fix if there were any projection problems? if there were any?

Usualy Hindi dvd making is work of visualy compromised people  so called who live in word of BLACKS from all perspectives!

You mean the colorized version? My bet is on Shemaroo. If it does come out on DVD expect mediocre picture quality on top of colorization and cropping to 'scope ratio. Talk about adding salt to the wound!

Maybe Rani's next role will be a blind and deaf telecine operator :)

I have already seen one, probably pirate, Color MEA DVD. It was that kind of DVD that has "Video Sound" lightly imprinted on the picture, right in the middle of the screen, thru full length of the film.

Projection problem as I noticed in theatre, i.e. squashed picture (or excessive stretch sideways) is not there. But for 20% of the film, PKTDK song and last 3 or 4 reels that were originally in colour, picture is somewhat stretched vertically.
In the theatre it was other way around. That is, Originally colored portions of the film were OK but for newly colored portions, i.e. 80% of the film, Picture was squashed vertically (or you may call it stretched sideways).

I'll be watching this film again in Ottawa on Sunday, just in a hope that Projection Problem is fixed??

Was the coloring consistent in both parts? Did you notice a difference in the enhanced coloring of the original and the new colorised portion, and why the orignals not squashed? any ideas!

YRF sounds as PLAUSABLE crooks right next to EROS to do this sinful honour!!

BTW!! Pirated dvds, are mostly non anamorphic made to look anamorphic, that would explain your observation rana!!

I saw no problem with coloring. They sure did unbelievably excellent job with coloring, where they put effort. Sure some scenes were terrible too. For example if an original scene was too dark or black, like battle scenes, a dose of color on black looks real ugly. Main coloring effort was songs and Dilip Madhubala and other main actors, and the results were excellent.
Somehow, PQ was better for those portions of the film that were originally in color.
Squash or no squash (if it is a problem?? I'll confirm it after a second viwing) problem seems to have originated in converting digital files on to film (720x480 vs 640x480, 1368x768 vs 1280x768, or similar)??

That would make sense! But still why a difference in the two parts?

The sinful act was already done with colorisation! I read somewhere Legend Films is setting up shop in India. In case you wonder, they specialize in colorisations! There goes your Madhumati arsh!

I was holding on to reply to this in a hope to have seen MEA in a different (better) theatre (to confirm if the squash problem really is there) today, but the screening was cancelled.

Still the two observations (1: Film, 2: DVD) consistently indicate the same thing. i.e. newly colored film portion and the original color portion of the film require two different sideways stretching. Using a single value for stretch, if they succeed in correcting the newly colored portion, the original colored portion gets the same vertical stretch.

Contrary to the restorer's claims that even the previously colored portion of the film has gone through the same process, my observation says that the old B/W film was digitized, colored, transferred back to film and the previously color portion was redone using some different process.

Moreover, originally shot in color portions of the film were a lot better than the newly colored portion.

Other than sideways stretching, there is major difference in sharpness of the picture - the originally shot in color portions of the film looks sharper than newly colored portion of the film.
Specially, the long shots are worst in newly colored portion of the film.

I don't think I will buy colored version of MEA DVD - based on the video quality in the theater. I am satisfied with the Shemaroo version unless some progressive version comes out.
