Yes, his singing was pretty good. He's sung a few other songs in Tamil, like Varaya Thozhi from Jeans.

BTW dragunr2, did you liked the songs.

I liked them. They're not great or anything, but the jazzy feel is something fairly new for Indian music. I'm sure the picturizations will be interesting. Is that Tippu singing with Kamal in Kurangu Kaiyil Maalai?

I'm guessing the Tamil version will not be shot with sync sound, as Manisha Koirala is in it?

I had the same feeling and even got head ache initially, but this CD rocks and get attention from everybody (previous CD that got attention was Boys and nothing else). Jazzy feel is really good.

Yela song is similar to a song from sathya (potta theriyudhu theriyudh - title song) - but then with Jazz it feels different. Probably kamal asked IR to do something similar.

Just happen to read this review by some independent reviewer at tfmpage

Quote:
theme music 1- 5.04 mins highlights the life at 'mumbai' i presume. let me check out the visuals later. the music explains the life at mumbai as modern, trendy embracing all who comes to her, adding on another layer of satire, with its underworld kingdom, corruption et all and the peoples life living over platforms and dwelling in slums,. the red light areas, the fun and frolic over there the underlying sadness in their life. oh god this is a perfect musical tour of mumbai.

theme music 2- 3.24 mins this takes us deep into some mystery and adventure and while we are at it stupified, gives us a breath of fresh air and journeys into calmness and love and a feeling of alls well that ends well

Dont know how they figure this out before the movie, but this seems to be in line with the music, but then you know, Kamal and IR will always give surprise!

The part of Kurangu Kaiyil Maalai that starts "Kannukkena theriyum, karpoorathoda vaasam vaasam, soodam ethi kaatum suraangani" has a style that IR has used quite a few times before, with the electric guitar (or is that bass guitar) in the background. He has used jazz-style before many times, just not as strong as in MX.

The songs are really catchy, particularly Kurangu Kaiyil Maalai (weird name for a song!) and Yelae Nee Yethippo, and I think with airplay on TV they will become popular.

What are some other jazzy songs of IR?

Iravu Nilavu- Anjali
Potta Padiyidhu- Sathya

Don't worry Arsh, it is not Mehboob, it is Dev Kohli who did the Hindi lyrics. So no "begaanaa begaanaa begaanaa" :)

THANKS for consolation..

Any ways, any time I saw a fantastic south album in Hindi, it was always original lyrics, mostly by Gulzar..e.g Saathiya, Dil Se, and My favourite all time, Sadma!!

Imho, anand Bakshi did a good job, for Nayak too, except man was forced to do, MOONCH WAALA PODA!! as that song was directly added from Tamil film..

I am glad Shad Ali, continued with Gulzar for lyrics and screen play for Bunti and Babli! but this time Composer is not Rehman, it is S.E.L..so we will see!!

DragunR2

I remember in this thread or someother thread you asked if MX had any trouble in censor. Apparently Vandematharam song was under scrutiny and they have to replace teh visuals. It seems the way they showed the national flag wasnt correct, so they have to retake that again.

Vandematharam song itslef has so many critisism (speically from ARR fans, since they feel that ARR "invented" Vandematharam), but the reality is that the situation demanded this and censor didnt object the song, but the visuals.

CD will be out in USA next week. I have asked to get Hindi CD also (not yet released so far). Will keep you guys posted.

Thanks

Sexy song cut from `Mumbai Xpress`!
By Moviebuzz
Friday, 08 April , 2005, 10:05

Image

The titillating song in Mumbai Xpress featuring two sexy sirens Rakhi Sawant and Mun Mun has been chopped from the film by censors in Chennai!

Though Kamal argued that the song is very important for the narration to move on and it depicted ‘Lust’ and ‘Greed’, the regional censors said that he can go ahead and show the song but the film will be given an ‘A’ certificate with minor cuts on the song.

But a film like Mumbai Xpress that had been publicized as a total family entertainer cannot afford to have an ‘A’ certificate as family and children audience will shy away and that too at time when schools have closed for summer vacations.

Remember the competition - Chandramukhi has a clean ‘U’ certificate and Sachin is ‘UA’, which means Mumbai Xpress had to get a ‘U’, otherwise the word of mouth will go around saying that it is an adult movie!

So a furious Kamal agreed to take off the song and have a ‘U’ certificate for the film. But the buzz is that he will retain the song in the Hindi version.

Which song is this? And will it also be cut from the Hindi version?

This is the catchy song ofthe album. "Yelae nee othipo" - I hope this is avialable in Hindi versino... Instead of cutting the song, Kamal should have got "A" certificate. It cant be any worst than thiruppachi song ("appan senja thappilae aatha petha vethilae valanndhu nikkudhu" and trisha showing her body as if she is taking bath in the bathroom)

Wisdom at last
IndiaGlitz
Wednesday, April 13, 2005

Dr Ramadoss, founder, Pattali Makkal Katchi and Tamil Protection Movement has been a bete noire for the Tamil industry. His protests against Tamil films with English titles have been disgusting. But now there seem to a change in his stance. He seems to have struck by a sudden lightning of wisdom.

"We will stop our activities in this issue. We will not protest. We will just make pleas and requests to the filmwallahs. We are not going to indulge in any kind of violence to enforce our requests or demand".

In a statement issued in Chennai yesterday, Ramadoss said, 'in regard with the agitations of our organization, for saving the Tamil language, we want to achieve much more than just making the people in cinema to change the titles.

We won't waste our resources by agitating for this small issue. We do have many other issues, which affect people more." Now that his threats have not worked, perhaps Ramadoss is singing a different tune.

MX reviews are encourage. First Half seems to take the movie to "classic" category where as second half is confusion. Probably will run well in Hindi since this confusion kinda comedy usually clicks well there.

When the audio was leaked (not released yet!), everyone blamed IR for Vandematharam, but I was pretty confident, since IR does whats right for the movie (and not whats right for himself). My confidence in IR didnt go wrong. I am quoting a review from another site

"The stunts, in spite of being a treat to watch, are a crazy risk, especially since Kamal shot them himself. Watch out for the Vande Mataram song which the children sing while Kamal dangles holding on for dear life. Adding effect into that one is the superb composition by Illayaraja."

CM also seems to be a good family entertainer. In CM Jyothika outplays Rajini (like Padayappa where RK outplayed Rajini but its a big hit)

Both has mixed reaction from audiances, since CM is better than Baba and not the best Rajini fans arent sure how to rate the movie, and since MX is classic in first half, which set "HUGE" expectaions for the second half which is less comedy than first half, fans dont know how to rate this movie.

Okay... move on guys, I will open up another thread for

Vettaiadu Vilaiyadu (Hund & Play) from Kamal - Gautham. Good news is that the shooting starts with in weeks in New York. Let me see if Ican get a glimpse of Kamalji / Gautham or JOOOOOOOOOOOOO
