Congratulations to Kamals, http://www.mumbaixpress.com is the first indian movie to clear censor in digital format.

This movie will be released in 30 theatres in India in Digital format and abroad.

Rajkamal already made profit just in Audio CD rights (Rajkamal Audio - new Audio company launched by Kamal) and Satellite rights.

Hope the music and movie is a commercial block buster for Kamal, since he need some money to spend on his experimental movies again!

Its good to see more films using digital format.

But the headline is too funny. Does it matter that it got censored in digital format? It isnt the first digitally processed film? What next firt Indian movie to be sent in Digital format using Fedex etc? :D

I know your are a diehard fan of Kamal Hassan - but calling him an experimenter is streching it . I am going to step into the movie thinking this has been inspiried by the argentenian flick -Nine Queens ( http://imdb.com/title/tt0247586/ ). I hope i am proved wrong

Yes it was, because last week our censor declined to censor the film in digital format. So Kamal has to use his influence in the IB ministry and Sharmila Tagore to help our out to achieve this!

dvdisoil

Vaanam vasappadum is the first movie taken in digital format, but it was censored and released in regular film roll. The advantage, as per kamal,is that he saved over 1 crore by taking the movie in digital format.

Hopefully while playing the s/w dont have any virus and end up showing something else (or if the movie is flop, kamal can say that some virus changed the story  )

Also I am not saying that this particular movie is an experimental one. Since its on RajKamal banner, it will be straight from hollywood (or some other wood).

FYI, next kamal movie with Gautam seems to similar to Copland, again no surprises, the one after that is going to be the remake of "Tempus Fugit" - spanish film, by Enrique Folch . What I meant was movies like Virumandi (some ppl compared this with Life of david gale, but they are TOTALLy different).

So ME was shot in HD? I hope Ayngaran and whoever does the Hindi DVD doesn't use a print as a source then.

The idea of two people telling the same story in different ways came from Rashomon, or at least, Rashomon popularized that storytelling device.

Exactly - Kamal Hassan has always clamied to be a fan of Kurosawa, so this comes as no suprise. Eitherways I am looking forward to seeing the Xpress.

Why? I dont see any achievement in that. It certainly doesnt need to be advertised as the first film to get cemsored in digital format. Its beginning to remind me of the "Worlds largest" moniker here in the US. Everything is the World's largest something or the other.

Check the article at https://eww.pavc.panasonic.co.jp/pro-av ... talWW.html

Vaanam vasappadum seems to be the first in HD digital format. As you can see from the article many films have been released in digital format before that. The article refers to 'Vendi Mabbulu' released in 2002 whic was all digital. Thankfully there is no gloating over being the first in this and that.

From various articles on the web, the digital cameras have to mature and currently they are inferior to regular film. Digital Intermediate may be a compromise

I read the review, and very impressive. Ordered my copy today. Will compare this and virumandi once I see this. Thanks for the suggestion.

DU - Don’t try to compare Virumandi and Rashmon, they are not in the same league. Assume Virumandi didnot exist and then see it. Make sure you see the movie and then listen to the commentary track (assuming you are getting the criterion version of the movie, the cheap Asian version is not worth it) - its one of the best commentary tracks and is highly informative.

Enjoy

I've seen Leela. It is about the only decent DVD from Cinebella, but for a supposedly HD-sourced DVD it was a disappointment.

We should all email Ayngaran and Sahara to use the HD master for the DVD.
