the film is very good, imo. Not once did I feel it was too long and dragging. I'd say it's even better than lagaan, which I liked very much. Gayatri Joshi was great, she is beautiful and can act, a combo that is lacking in most , if not all, newcomers today. But most importantly, I saw the srk that I thought I'd never see again, especially after he started doing those chopra/johar/farah khan maha crap movies just to please the youth and make money. I hope he does more meaningful films like this one that actually move him forward as an actor, not backwards like those childish senseless piece of junk he's been doing the past couple of years. sorry, don't mean to offend anyone , thats just the way I feel.

I also found that some of the songs could not be accessed through the song menu. For example when selecting the title song "Ye jo des hai", I actually get linked to the chapter previous to the song. Anyone else has this problem?

yaar jeet, on paper I agree with you mostly. I individually liked the music too, but in film the songs dont work the way to move the story, like it was in Lagaan, even background for me was not as impressive as lagaan. Screen play and characterization, not as superb as Lagaan!!
There is no reason to be defensive!!I did watch it once and barely finished it but I dont look forward to watching it again.

I respect your opinion indeed.

I do look forward to see GAYTRI JOSHI, big time and a lot of time in good roles!

Finally managed to grab a copy of the DVD from my friend and watched it . Boy-o-boy did it touch a nerve. I loved the film, could have gotten away by removing couple songs towards the end but I am willing to forget that. For people who have not seen it ( esp. NRIs ) GO SEE IT. Finding a new found respect for Gowrikar ( was not hip about Lagaan) and Sharuk Khan. After my brief disappointment with black, this comes as a welcome relief :)

Kudos guys… !

The UK and US version is made from digibeta tape master, supervised by the director and encoded by Prasad Labs.

Expect a better release from Prasad Labs for the India 2 disc release (in mar/apr 2005) made from a HD source, and a documentary on the making of the film.

A film & the DVD as such, would have been more wonderful had it come with a director's commentary on it's supplements.

My DVD has a problem in the song selection menu also. If i want to select "Dekho naa", the scene in Delhi where Shahrukh takes money from the bank appears. :P

Same for everyone. since this songs comes in the back-ground while the construction is going on, they might have thought to start from the place where it all started!

PAL to NTSC, sigh. Guess I'll pass on this one then, or try to find a cheap used copy since the review says it is watchable.
