Actually "TOO LONG" is the most common problem with Indian films. Indian films have come a long way in terms of most technical aspects but one, that of editing. What Indian cinema needs the most is some good editors who are willing to stand up to the directors and their self indulgence. I can't think of a single Indian film in a long time that could not have done with some editing. Satya and Dil Chahta Hai are probably the the only films in the last 10 yrs that I can think of, but then again they too could have done with cutting out a song or two. Monsoon Wedding is the only film that I would not cut at all, but then again it is not really an Indian production I think. I still feel if Monsoon Wedding had been entered instead of Lagaan that year, it would have most definately won. It is actually quite unfortunate that both these films came in the same year. We go thru years without a product worthy of entering and then we have two in the same yr.

I saw the film in the theater and the lip sync seemed fine to me.

I did think you might be referring to that but since I didn't recall any problems wwith the sync sound in the theater I thought maybe you might be reffering to a 'lip sync' problem in the DVD, which has been a problem on some Indian DVDs before.

Great film, honestly. Sad that it wasn't appreciated.

How are the extras on this dvd?

Honestly, despite its nobility/greatness, imho, it lacks repeated viewing capability. and more so dvd quality is not worth $20.
But I guess Quality is only in beholder's eyes! :idea:

The screen caps and original DVD is at 2.66:1 (640/240 xvid caps) - which is the correct AR.

There is a Sync problem in terms of loudness with the music (UTV version). Had to turn up the volume in order to hear the low tone of the voices which in turn made the music blast way too loud.

Perhaps this is simply that the soundtrack has more dynamic range than most Indian films? I find that the dialogue is mixed louder than in HW films.

Was Lagaan also 2.66:1? I remember someone posting a cap from the pirate DVD which had more picture on the sides.

this UTV version seems slightly cropped from top and botton to what i saw in the cinema..which might explain the slightly larger ratio

Lagaan, at least on the official DVD, was 2.35:1. What the actual/intended/proper ratio was questioned in this thread;

viewtopic.php?t=523

.. never did find my Lagaan DVD again :x Looking back, the 2.35:1 ratio seems to be correct.

Same with Swades - the DVD ratio is 2.66:1 but cinema or intended ratio might be different.

Well, Movie is worth watching despite genius Taran Adarsh's review :evil: . Well Concept, ofcourse kind of slow, didn't feel long but if you do it may be just because it's slow.

Gayatri joshi looks very good, and she can not look much better in other dresses than sari.
