If the release date is July 31, 2004, then are the screen shots, posted a month ahead, on page 1 from genuine DVD??

The "review" is from INDIAfm. So probably talking about the DVD release date in India.

No USA. And their idea of a review is pathetic. Sales pitch = review. Yeah, right.

Digitally mastered from the original film??

May be. At least it's not Field Averaged.

Watching it now.
It's not NTSC telecine. Every 5th field/ frame is repeated/ shared as 6th field/ frame. Clear indication of 50 (most likely PAL telecine) to 60 (NTSC) fields per sec transfer. Something like Hindi EVP's 50 to 60 fields per sec transfers. Such Hindi EVP DVDs had exact repeat, where as in Net Effect Yuva, 5th and 6th field contain complimentary info, not exact repeat.

I have given Ayngaran a DVD-R copy of the film, to give to Mani Ratnam. Lets see his reaction :)

DVD-R 4.5gb meaning an even worse copy than the original .. Sunny you wanna kill the poor guy :D ;) :D

I just got the Net Effect Yuva DVD and it only appears to be 2.7GB split across two layers!? Can someone else confirm this??

Definitely not less than 4.7 GB (if I remember correctly, from last month, it's close to 8 GB). You must have picked up a pirate or are not reading the GB info properly.

Possibly a pirate. Although my source has always provided originals in the past. It's defintely dual-layer. But I backed it up on DVD+R and found that I needed no compression because it was less than 4 GB.

The packaging looks original. And although murky (like the screenshots), there isn't much visible pixalation.

Not mine. It needed 2 discs.

It's strange that a pirate would compress the movie to that extent and still go to the trouble of manufacturing a dual-layer disk.

There was something strange about the DVD structure too. Nero had a problem consolidating/re-sorting the VOB's as a valid DVD-Movie. There were only 3 VOB's on the DVD (2 @ 1GB and a 3rd @ 350MB).

It's because of incompetency, laziness, don't care etc.

Recall, even now all VHS copies come recorded on a SLP speed even if the feature would have fitted using an SP speed.

The DVD really looks like an original (unless my source was duped). I'm wondering if I got one from a bad-batch of Net Effect DVD's. Anyway, I'll borrow another copy from a friend next week. However, I think he got his DVD from the same soure.

I wanted to get Yuva but have been holding out to see if a decent release comes out - not sure if this is a new version or re-package of the Net Effects version:

Does anyone know?

Thanks.
