Hollywood quality is also quite uneven. It's better than some Hollywood DVDs and
worse than others. Image steadiness is as good as it gets. Source clarity is good
Hollywood standard too. Sharpness and compression is below good Hollywood
quality. Digital video artifacts are an issue as with many Hollywood DVDs.
Color and contrast are as on the master, not typical Hollywood or
Bollywood look.
Watch it on your system. If if looks good to you it's good for you and if it does not
it's not a good DVD for you.

I just saw the movie, on the DVD. Could have been better in the script and the DVD, has a little murky look to it. Overall, must say an honest effort for both the film and the DVD. Ali, Arsh UL, Mhafner, if you all don't mind, why don't one of you review this DVD as a regular DVD review on the main page, as I think it deserves one.
Thanks
Haroon.

judge for yourself, i saw the screen shots and I thought they were mind blowing despite some people criticising it and turns out even M hafner praises it - something that I've realised all this years on Zulm...

Excellent review by M hafner on the DVD. I assume his rating scores at imdb are relative to Hollywood DVDs. It deserves much higher rating if it's relative to Bollywood as there are few hindi DVDs that are better than this. To my knowledge this is the best DVD authored in India!

Hope one day we can afford to see such quality embrace Telugu DVDs!

:D

Saw the movie on DVD and basically agree with most of the comments on here. It is definitely one of the better Indian DVDs, but what really makes it a few notches below great is the compression problem. They had a long movie, added an extra audio track, and added a bunch of useless subtitles on one disc, so it wouldn't have been easy to make this look great anyway. But their encoders are clearly not as good as Hollywood, because Hollywood has done a fine job with the LOTR 1 disc series, and even Lagaan showed much better compression from CT.

Regarding the color pallette of the film, I agree with mhafner in that it is the way the movie was shot. I happen to like it because it has more subdued and realistic colors as opposed to the garish colors we get from Bollywood in films like a K3G, or to use Arsh's example, Asambhav. Even Farhan's DCH had those loud colors but that was cleary intended because of the genre of the film.

As for the film itself, I happened to like that as well. Again, not great, but better than most of the crap out there. Farhan is let down by his father in terms of the script, but what I really appreciate about his direction is how he handles all his scenes so maturely. From the interactions between Hritik-Preity to Hritik-Boman, the characters handle the situations very maturely and realistically, which is a good change from the overly dramatic stuff we get from Bollywood that you can never relate to. Other part were he loses points is the whole military setting because Farhan does make that too filmi with the typical patriotic song with everyone jumping up and down. The rock climbing sequence was fun to watch but the battle sequences left much to be desired.

Overall: 7/10 for both film and DVD.
