There are several errors on the site and facts & figures are also reported incorrectly. To start with, the music of 'Star' was by Biddu not A.R. Rehman, who by the way has not composed for over 50 movies in Bollywood (south Indian films not included in Bollywood). Also 'Dil Se' has sold a lot more than 'Bombay' has, and even then, neither have sold 50 million copies for sure. Because if either had sold that many copies, it would be the best selling album of all time, worldwide. That feat belongs to Michael Jackson's 'Thriller' which has sold over 48 million copies worldwide. By the way I think the best selling album in India is 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' which sold around 10 million copies.

One more thing, I personally feel that an Indian choreographer from Bollywood should have been chosen to do the choreography for 'Bombay Dreams'. I don't think anyone else can choreograph the great musical numbers better than those from Bollywood.
I vote 'Farah Khan'. What say?

PS: Just noticed they have 'Fiza' credited to A.R. Rehman too. Well I guess we can let that one pass, since he did compose one song for the film.

Regarding Star; they're probably talking about the Tamil version. Sunny's review here;

Star soundtrack was done by A.R.Rahman (for the Tamil version).

A.R. Rahman has done less then 50 soundtracks for Hindi cinema, but has done around 80 soundtracks in total from English, Tamil, Telegu, Malayalam, and god knows how many more languages :)

A.R Rahman most popular work is in fact Humse Hain Muqabala aka Kadhalan (according to Channel four = UK), which was released in over 6 languages. The song Urvashi & Muqabala was very big in India amongst the masses and classes. And even outsold many famous Hindi film titles.

Instead of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai I would have thought that something like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Aashiqui, Roja, Kabhi kabhie, Maine Pyar Kiya would have the title of being the highest sellers.

Indian choreographer from Bollywood would have been much better, but use a choreographer like Raju Sunderam, Shiamak Davar, Ahmed Khan or even Prabhu Deva who understands the music to Rahman!

PS the song by rahman in Fiza is the only thing I can listen to on that album. The other songs sound awful on CD but not bad when you see the film particualy the song Mehboob Mere (only cause of Sushmita Sen)

Another speculation to add here, I had read somewhere that yash chopra's Dil To Pagal Hai was the highest selling Bollywood music Album in India.

I think Farah Khan is still the best not only compared down south but also in Bollywood. Before Farah Khan there were no choregraphy just plain boring songs or hundreds of ugly dancers on a hill with colourful balloons!!

I'd vote for Farah Khan. She'd probably best represent the Bombay film industry - rather than Prabhu Deva who unmistakably represents the south. However, it could depend on the situation in the musical - different choreographers could be employed for different parts. In any case, Farah Khan is one of the only choreographers who really take into account the context and situation in a film and build the choreography around it. She changed the industry overnight with "Pehla Nasha" in JJWS:)

Here's an audio news clipping on the launch of Bombay Dreams. And for all you Farah Khan fans, she has been ropped in to do the musical's Choreography.

Where'd you get the info about Farah Khan? That would be perfect, IMO. Too bad though, I doubt if I'll ever get to watch it in Singapore.

Aamir refuses Andrew Llyod Webber.

One is counted among the world's leading musicians and the other, among India's finest actors. Andrew Lloyd Webber has already proved his merit in the world of music. While Aamir Khan is trying to put Indian celluloid on the globe. His maiden production Lagaan is India's best bet for the Oscars. Their coming together would have created wonders and would have been a treat for cinegoers. Post Lagaan Aamir's professional career has elevated to a new high. He has left behind the other Khans in this rat race. Presently in the US to gather support and attention for his film, and of course attend the Oscars, Aamir is making all efforts to see that his maiden production Lagaan makes it to the top five foreign films at the Oscars. And in the process he has virtually neglected his career and other films. As a result his next, AB Corp production Happy Diwali has been pushed back further. Rumour has it that Aamir has been rejecting crème de la crème offers from leading filmmakers. But this time he went a step ahead and apparently refused Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical 'Bombay Dreams. "Aamir did audition for Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical Bombay Dreams and was also selected for it," says a source close to the actor. Besides Aamir, the film had other Indians working in it like choreographer Farah Khan and actor Dalip Tahil who also had a small role in the film. The musical was slated to travel all over the world and would have proved to be a great boon for an actor like Aamir to showcase his talent far and wide. But now news has it that Aamir has decided to drop out of the project owing to his tight schedule promoting Lagaan.

Webber's Bombay Dreams to open in June

India is gradually gaining international exposure. Lagaan has been nominated for the Oscars. Andrew Lloyd Webber has roped in Indian music director A R Rehman to compose the tunes for his Broadway play Bombay Dreams. Noted filmmaker Shyam Benegal stated that Lagaan's nomination for the Oscar is recognition for particular form of filmmaking that'll make India known to those who don't know anything about it. Govind Nilhani opines that Webber's new musical will show Bollywood and Asians living abroad in a positive light. "It is one of the few plays I'm looking forward to," he said. Even the eight Oscar nominated Moulin Rouge had a popular Hindi film number included in it.
