Even as old favourite Karan Johar is yet to convince her to make a comeback after motherhood in his next film, Kajol has been approached by filmmaker Ravi Chopra.

Fresh from the success of his "Baghban", Chopra has apparently asked Kajol to play the lead in his next directorial undertaking "Babul".

And guess who would be Kajol's leading man in "Babul"? None other than Amitabh Bachchan! Unusual, to say the least.

If all goes well, he and Kajol will be paired in a drama about a father-in-law and daughter-in-law whose remarriage he takes upon himself after his son dies.

It's a powerful subject and Kajol is the filmmakers' first choice. She has read the script. Though she has some reservations she's likely to give her consent, sources say.

If so, this would be Bachchan's second film within a year where he's paired in a very unique and unusual combination. In Sanjay Leela Bhansali's "Black", he has Rani Mukhjerjee as a co-star.

Evidently, filmmakers are now willing to break the conventional romantic mould of the lead pair to feature the mega star in unusual plots and permutations.

Shrugs Bachchan: "I don't know if that's true. But yes, I'm very excited about 'Babul'. One of the reasons being Salman Khan who plays my son again (after 'Baghban')."

In "Baghban", Bachchan and Salman as his foster son had got along famously. In fact, Chopra intends to cast them together in another film whose script is ready.

Incidentally, another project that Chopra is planning to make is an Indian version of the Clint Eastwood-Meryl Streep romance "The Bridges Of Madison County", again with Bachchan in the lead.

I wish she considers since she is my fav actress ( for acting not for looks) wasn't hema malini going to play ab wife but now its kajol thats nasty but as long as kajol back i dont care who she is paired with (best guy with her is srk) or is she playing the bahoo

if kajol is in this movie, she will play the bahu. AB is the father-in-law while Hema Malini is his wife. Salman Khan will play the son, while Akshay Kumar will play the guy who Kajol will get married to in the end.

Both Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar have small roles in the movie, and they don't share any scenes together.

The movie will mainly be focused on AB's character and the bahu's character. Also in the running for the bahu's role is Preity Zinta and Rani Mukherjee. I personally hope Kajol gets the role as it suits her quite well.

AB has always been doing a Clint act..

from "Sholay" all the way to "Khakee"

He has practically made his career out of it!

MUBARAK BHEN JI!!

KAJOL HAS ACCEPTED THE ROLE:

Repeat performance?
By Judi Silva ©2004 Bollyvista.com

After 'Baghban' proved to be such a big hit, director Ravi Chopra has decided to team up with the Big B once again for his new film 'Babul'.

The best news about this film is that Kajol will be returning to the silver screen, as she has accepted the part of Amitabh's widowed daughter-in-law. Salman Khan will also be part of the star line-up, as Amitabh's son. Watch this space for more exciting details as they arise.

Sorry to ruin your happiness :(

No comeback for Kajol yet!

Get ready for this week's scoop!

Kajol -- who is 30 today -- will not make a comeback in Ravi Chopra's next film, even as the film industry buzzes with such speculation.

While Chopra did approach the talented actress for a pivotal role in Babul, the deal fell through.

"Kajol has not made up her mind about when she wants to come back [to films]," explains Chopra.

Kajol's loss is her cousin Rani Mukerji's gain!

Preity Zinta had also been approached for the role.

Chopra, who directed the hit Baghban last year, repeats Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini and Salman Khan in his next film.

Babul tells the tale of a man (Bachchan) who tries to bring happiness back into his daughter-in-law (Mukerji)'s life after his son (Salman)'s death. Salman does not have a guest appearance in the film, like he did in Baghban.

The film includes another actor, who has not been cast yet.

Chopra is discussing the role with Akshay Kumar.

If he signs on, Akshay will play the man whom Bachchan's character hopes his daughter-in-law will remarry.

Babul, which means the father of the bride, will go on the floors in September.

It will be shot in Delhi and Mumbai. "We will also shoot in either London or Russia," says Chopra.

The film is expected to be completed by May and will release next July.
