Any thoughts and recollections on famous Music Directors who started their career assisting senior music directors??

Some never were assistant to any one.

Some, at least one, most famous music director has had no formal music training or knowledge and still managed to get to the top??

To start off:

One or both from Kalyan Ji Annand Ji team were assistant to Madan Mohan.

LKPL were assistant to KJAJ

DattaRam was assistant to Shanker Jai Kishan. Who else assisted SJ??

RD Burman of course was assistant to his father SD Burman.

OP Nayyar, by his own admission had no formal training in music, and still managed to get to the top. May be it's his judgement on which tune will be hit with the masses that made him Music Director even if music was done by some one else??

Shanker Jai Kishan never were assistant to any other Music Director. Are there any other Music Directors that never assistant to another Music Director??

There definitely are hundreds of interesting names in 'ASSISTANT MUSIC DIRECTOR' category. It'll be interesting to name them.

Sandeep Chowta was assistant to ARR (at least that is what I heard)

Laxmikant Pyarelal also assisted Shanker Jaikishan. That's why Raj Kapoor used them for Satyam Shivam Sunderam, Bobby, etc.

R.D. Burman obviously assisted his father S.D. Burman, and similarly Viju Shah assisted Kalyanji Anandji.

Ismail Darbar assisted Rajesh Roshan, LP. Bappi Lahiri and Nadeem Shravan.

I believe that ARR assisted Ilayaraja.

Can somebody confirm this?

Kalyanji Virji Shah (of Kalyanji Anandji) assisted Hemant Kumar.
Shankar (of Shankar Jaikishan) assisted Ram Ganguly (Music director of Aag - 1st RK film).

I'm not sure of Madan Mohan, but Lyricist Annand Bakshi was in Indian Army.

BTW, any one knows of Music Directors RAVI and Anil Kapoor's father (Surinder Kapoor??) who perhaps was a Music Director along with producer?? Who did they assist before becoming Music Director and who assisted them to become Music Director later??

BTW, another person described as Music Director, but never credited as Music Director, was Raj Kapoor. He participated in Music composing for his films. He was good at judging what tune will be a hit. No wonder all RK films' movies have hit music.

2) G.S.Kohli (Shikari 1963,Faulad, Namsteji) was assistant to O.P.Nayyar.
3) Jaidev assisted S.D.Burman.
4) Ganesh (Shararat,Thakur Jarnail Singh)assisted Lashmikant Pyarelal
5) Basu Manohari assisted R.D.Burman (Subse Bada Rupaiya)
