If you are referring to Ali Baba Aur 40 Chor, DEI's DVD was the best transfer of that film I ever seen!

Except that it suffered from DEI's infamous squashed effect !

despite, it was a beautiful transfer, it couldn't have looked better!

I think u can fix the squish lol

IT DID NOT!

I was pointing out contineously about DEI's anamorphic squashed picture problem, specially when some on zulm.net were claiming that there was no squashing problem in DEI anamorphic DVDs. Starting from 'Alibaba and 40 Chor' and Jigar, DEI anamorphic DVDs did not have squashed picture problem any more.

Before jumping to conclusions, I'll wait for actual BEI DVD report.

Can't be exact same transfer from the info posted in his thread.

1) BEI transfer is reported (in this thread) to be Anamorphic, where as, Shemaroo screen caps clearly show Letterboxed in 4:3 frame. So can't be same encoding.

2) 'Same Transfer' perhaps is implied for using same Telecine, which is Shemaroo DVD is Film to NTSC telecine, then hopefully BEI will be Progressive??

Hoping that Sohni Mahiwal BEI DVD is same as BEI Alibaba 40 Chor quality??

Rana

Resolved.

BEI Sohni Mahiwal is not the same transfer as Shemaroo (May be same Telecine). Shemaroo is letterboxed, BEI is anamorphic.

Still wishfull hoping BEI transfer to be Progressive?? At least, from the shots posted, I don't see any indication of Field Averaging.

Zeenat Aman acting with father/son Dharmendra and Sunny Deol. Is Sohni Mahiwal a good movie?

Same transfer or 'not same transfer' depends on how we define 'same transfer'.

It's same transfer as Shemaroo only, as far as source, i.e. telecine, is concerned.
The two versions have different colours implying different video processing after the telecine. Moreover, Shemaroo is letterboxed and BEI is Anamorohic. Still no indication whether BEI one is Progressive or not, where as, Shemaroo one is Interlaced. No idea of Audio differences or bit rates, implying the main DVD characteristic 'AUTHORING'. AUTHORING certainly is different.

Arsh:
Present screen caps from BEI SM look far inferior to BEI's Alibaba 40 Chor. But this could be due to image processing (data compression/ jpeg format etc)?? For fair comparison both BEI Alibaba 40 Chor and Sohni Mahiwal need to be compared side by side using same equipment set up. It will be interesting to include Shemaroo SM in the same comparison too. Arsh, thanks for volunteering.

----------------------

BTW, we started comparing Sohni Mahiwal to Alibaba 40 Chor. I didn't realize that both are Umesh Mehra films. Not only that, both are Indo-Soviet co-productions, and both had Dharmender and Zeenat Aman.

So what are you saying, that BEI took the Shemaroo DVD and made a fake 16:9 transfer from it? How do you know?
