Does Bollywood feel threatened by Mani Ratnam?

"Most certainly," asserts Madhavan. "Otherwise why try to write off such a brilliant work of art like 'Yuva'?"

LOL...talk about having a complex against Bollywood and north Indians!

On the other hand, I think Yuva is ahead of its time in India (as was Dil Se) and even if it works in south, i'd bet its due to the popularity of the actors or the music rather than the film itself.

And film trade writers are just retarded. I think we should just ignore them and their pathetic preoccupation with a film's box-office collection.

Just saw the film on the pathetic NetEffect DVD, which is even worse than the screenshots indicate. It is a solid film, definitely underratted by the moronic critics, but still disappointing by Mani Ratnam standards. The one major point that I agree with on the reviews is that the film takes too long for the flashbacks of each character, and then the last half hour seems rushed. Once the three characters lives are intertwined is when the film really picks up, but sadly by that time the story is coming to a close. The climax on the bridge is absolutely spectacular though.

In terms of performances, Abhishek is absolutely dynamite. Rani also proves her mettle with a great performance. Ajay and Vivek are also very good. Esha and Kareena don't have much to do, and Om Puri lends good support.

Overall, still a very good film (8/10) but I was expecting more.

You should give audiences more credit then that. If the film sucks then the film will fail.

In first 15 minutes, i could tell, why film flopped!! I have never seen such CROOKED/WEIRED/LAME narrative!! Simply pathetic story telling!
Before the VIEWER SETTLE with CHASE and 6 actors, 3 couple introduction, a shot is fired! and DAMN IT, LALLAN SINGH's flash back starts :fight: :bangbang: :stupid: and then the OTHER's and Others! before u TOUCH BACK to main story!!

Re LALLAN!! IMHO, he /AB jr KAMBAKHT was trying hard to copy BIG B's ANGRY YOUNG MAN's role!! Without , personality and Charisma! and LAME dialogue delievery!! KOI KHUDA SE ISS KO, DIALOGUE BOLNA TOU SIKHA DEY!! :( , Kareina looked like a WITCH! and RANI, Bas JOOTE KHANE KI MACHINE!

I amextremely DISAPPOINTED in DIRECTOR OF MANI RATNAM's CALIBRE! He is not VIKRAM BHATT!! Damn it!!

Mani Ratnam's Yuva starring Ajay Devgan, Abhishek Bachchan, Vivek Oberoi, Rani Mukherjee, Kareena Kapoor and Esha Deol has been officially selected for screening at the prestigious 61st Venice Film Festival.

This is Mani Ratnam's first film to be invited to the all important festival at Venice. It is an honour that "Yuva" is being screened at midnight on the closing day as the main attraction. The festival is to be held in September.

Many of Ratnam's films have won awards at prestigious International film festivals such as Berlin, Los Angeles, and Jerusalem with retrospectives of the director's work having been shown at film festivals around the world.

This film was made simultaneously in Tamil as Aayitha Ezhuthu and focuses on the lives of three youngsters from different strata of society and the irreversible changes that occur when their paths cross.
