1) The original DVD edition of Warner Bros Little Shop Of Horror's released in 1999 was yanked from circulation within two weeks of it's release for containing material not approved by director. DVD was re-released minus some additional material.

2) EVP and some Media Digital DVD releases in 1999 (I just sold my spare DVD's of Mere Mehboob, Mere Huzoor both Media Digital and
Kati Patang, Kashmir Ki Kali, Sawan Ki Ghata, Amar Prem, Mera Gaon Mera Desh, Pyar Hi Pyar, Haryali Aur Rastaa, Amir Garib & An Evening In Paris all EVP's releases in 1999 for $50 each).

After 5 years none of DVD's had any problem with playback so old is really gold.

So folks which DVD's do you think make the cut?

DEI-EROS DIL SE Platinum edition Sealed copy as Platinum sticker is on the outer plastic wrap.

DEI-EROS Pardes

Other DEI-EROS titles that are not avail any more. Like Hum Se Hai Muquabala.

Some VS-SD (original batches) DVDs that were progressive and turned Interlaced when sub-titles were inserted.

Rana

P.S.
Are you sure of HARIYALI AUR RAASTA and AMIR GARIB as EVP titles at any time??

Rana thanks for correction Haryali Aur Rastaa & Amir Garib were WEG titles and progressive. Anyway, we can always look back and remember the good old days when some Desi titles were produced with quality.

You sure about Amir Garib? It looked like the typical WEG DVD.

DEI Parinda, hard to get, but some places may still have it.

I believe there is a good dvd of MR INDIA out there(look at the Zulm Shots). It has since been re released by EROS.
Yes Boss and Deewana Mastana Super Digital DVD were both progressive and a lot better than the videosound and eros versions.
The first DEI EROS DVD of Hum Aapke Hain Koun was cut but adequate and much better than the latter 2 versions but this has been deleted or something.

Amir Garib by WEG is still avail. It has subtitles. Did the Prog version have sub-titles??

Thanks.

Amir Garib & Haryali Aur Ratsaa DVD's I was referring to were released by WEG in 1998. I have 3 copies of each and after nearly 6 years they play great. Anything from WEG,Media Digital or EVp from 2001 onwards is not worth anything.

I saw the Amir Garib DVD in 1999 and it was a poor transfer. Maybe they released a downgraded version soon after the '98 release?

Criterion DVDs of The Seven Samurai & The Passion Of Joan Of Arc. I've heard that there discontinued.

Another Indian DVD you might want to grab if it's still out there is Satya (DEI-EROS).

I think they are redoing Seven Samurai, as it was their first DVD and the transfer could be better.

If we're also doing American DVDs, Criterion's Silence of the Lambs, Salo, Robocop, Sid and Nancy, Unbearable Lightness of Being, and I think the Jacques Tati films are also out of print.

What a sad state only a handful Indian DVD's make the cut to be considered for status of being collector's item. As the DVD format becomes dominant the quality of Indian DVD's continues to go to the dogs and at present there is not one company putting out decent DVD's.
I agree criterion's Robocop, Silence of the lamb and Salo (out of print) make the cut, although DVD quality of Salo is rather poor but because it's hard to get it makes the cut.

Also some DEI titles from the good old days between 2000 & 2001 like Mother India, Ganga Jamuna, Hasina maan jayegi, Sharmilee, avoid the recent releases by BEI.
