Yeah theon,
The Faroudja chipa is the one that can "supposedly" clean up the garbage frames. Arsh has seen some clips of Mughal-e-azam and Humraaz . He would be in a better position to tell you more abt using Faroudja and using a cleaned up dvd.
My take would be that a cleaned up DVD is better than real-time garbage frame elimination. That's cos, the good-frame sequence (will be explained in the DIY tutorial) is best determined offline rather than in real time. In most EROS dvds, this sequence is constant. Hence technically there wont be any change between using a Faroudja chip and cleaning it a-priori.
However, with older dvds like EVP pseudo progressive stuff, this wont work.
As for interlaced dvds.. You cant do anything with them :(

There is, however, one advantage of using a reauthored dvd. In order to visualize the effects of using a Faroudja chip you need a HD display aka a HD digital TV !.. You dont need such a thing with a offline-reauthored dvd !

JB ..you are welcome :)

Spooky you got it right. I am using Tmpenc. The settings and how to identify bad frames..thats the step-by-step information I intend on posting.

As for the bit-rate in the reauthored version, you have two options :-

1.) You can keep the same (or nearly the same bit-rate) as the original files and then burn it on 2-DVD's

2.) You can repeat Step-1 to get a match with your IFO file's and then re-compress it to fit 1 DVD...

Please be warned that I have no idea how to fit in subtitles...If someone is kind enough he/she can post a DIY for that part also. I do not need subtitles for any dvds I have, except maybe a few tamil DVDs.

Also all DVD's cannot be corrected. Only "pseudo-progressive" dvd's can be corrected. What is a PP-dvd ?
1.) Play the dvd using Powerdvd.
2.) Make sure de-interlacing mode is in Force-weave (Config..video..advanced)
3.) Then press pause.
4.) Then do a step advance.

If while doing step advances..you see 3 good frames, followed by 2 bad frames, then you know that you have a pseudo-progressive dvd. That dvd can be easily corrected. (e.g all the dvds mentioned in the previous posts of this thread)

If you have more than 2 garbage frames (a garbage frame is one with combing artifacts) or if the pattern is not as stated in the previous paragraph, then you cannot get a 100% progressive dvd. You can at best get a 90% progressive dvd, with at least 1 bad frame coming in the picture. However, with TMPgenc+ you can reduce the "flickering" artifacts to a very large extent. ( an e.g would be Aankhen-WEG )

Still waiting for the detailed procedure if you can provide.
Which software you are using out of "TMPGEnc", "TMPGEnc DVD Author" & "TMPGEnc Plus"?
