Shekhar Kapur´s ´Tulku´

Shekhar Kapur had raised a lot of expectations some years when his film ´Elizabeth´ was nominated for the Oscars , now plans to make a movie called ´Tulku´ , which is an ambitious project based on a mystical tale of reincarnation with a budget of $100 million .

The ´Elizabeth´ maker has approached a few Hollywood companies which have liked the idea conceived by him , more than two decades ago .

Shekhar will start shooting for ´Tulku´ , after completing ´Pani´ which is a low budget $ 10-million project . Reveals Shekhar " My dream project´s theme is Indian , the thought is Indian , yet the film is for the global market ."


BTW, Didn't Shekhar Kapoor act in a few Hindi films before moving to direction?? Wasn't it him as hero in Toote Khilone??

So, he did act in quite a few films. I guess, the most famous, where he was hero, was Toote Khilone.

BTW, as per Yesterday's news Shekhar Kapur has made it to Millionaires league in UK. Bravo.

He was in a few films of the 70's but he never made it big. He is actually embarassed of the fact that he made those films and would rather forget them. Alot of people don't know that he is Dev Anand's nephew and had a 7 year relationship with Shabana Azmi.

This film sound like it could be a break-through crossover film, if done well. He is probably the right director to do it as most Bollywood directors would make a mess of it, theough I hear his 'four feathers' was a dissapointment. I wonder if Time Machine would still be released?

His wife is the HEROINE in KABHI HAAN KABHI NAA!!!

Ok since it is trivia time about Shekar Kapur here goes some more :

-He is a trained Chartered Accountant
-He assisted Dev Anand during the making of ISHQ ISHQ ISHQ
-He is notorious for asking a rewrite of a movies script half-way during the making of which, notably Sibte Hassan Rizvi's JOSHILAY (anil kapoor & Sunny Deol) and Bunty Soorma's DUSHMANI. He was not credited as the director of JOSHILAY though he had finished about 70% of the movie. He did get credit for DUSHMANI though he was party to less than 50% of the movie
-MR.INDIA went grossly over budget for the same above reasons, except it turned out to be a hit
-His assistant from Mr.INDIA, Satish Kaushik was hired by the producer Boney Kapoor to direct their next opus, conceived on a similarly large scale (ROOP KI RANI, CHORON KA RAJA) except it turned out to be a dud!
-His other notable assistant who gave a lot of hits is Raj Kanwar (DEEWANA - SRK's first movie)
-He routinely scans the theatre circuit in Delhi to give talents a break. He picked up both Seema Biswas and Nirmal Pandey (BANDIT QUEEN) from there.
-He has acted in a few television serial as well
-His first cousins (Chetan Anand's sons) have been convicted for the murder of their father's long time companion Priya Rajvansh over a property dispute !!!

Suchitra Krishnamurthy - She also sang in few music albums.

Convicted. After a long trial they have finally been convicted and are serving their sentence currently. As per an article Pritish Nandy(http://www.rediff.com/news/2000/apr/12nandy.htm) wrote long, long ago, Kapur wasted no effort in using his influence (with Nandy ie) to get him to write favourably in the media about them so that it may somehow affect the trial that was to take place....thankfully the law did eventually take its own course !
