Any news on on how Walking Tall Box Office is doing in its first weekend?? Are people walking tall in or walking disappointed (hope not) out??
There were 2 other big films in competition.

The weekend estimate is that Walking Tall is number 2 (Hellboy is 1) with $15.3 million, though the figures published on Monday could change.

Even though Walking Tall came in Second behind Hellboy, it's still reported to be Profitable.

It seems the PG-13 rating helped out the movie at the box-office.

With a reported budget of 40-50 millions and another 10 -15 for marketing Walking Tall has to make at least 70-80 million to make a profit and that's not likely. Although exit polls are more positive than Hellboy the real test will be this weekend to see if movie holds well. i have seen the movie and it's not bad.

It should do decent business overseas as well, and there's also DVD, which is where a lot of the money is these days.

In 4 weeks it has grossed $ 40 Million from US Box Office. Hellboy that was 25% to 35% more expensive, raked in $ 55 Million. Both films were nearing the end of their primary theatrical runs in US. Collections are not bad, as collections from around the world, remainder theatrical run and TV, DVD, Video will make both these films very profitable.

boxofficemojo.com for Walking Tall:

Production Budget: $46 million
Est. Marketing Costs: $25 million

US theatrical covered marketing and then some, but not all of the production cost.

That's the kind of Publicity or Hype is needed and afforded to collect $ 20 Million or so in the first week. Otherwise hope for "Bend It Like Bekham" product.
