Time Movies' Kismat will be satellite-transmitted

By IndiaFM News Bureau, February 13th, 2004 - 1400 hrs IST

Time Movies' Kismat starring Bobby Deol & Priyanka Chopra, which is releasing this month, will be satellite-transmitted, direct-to-theatre in some of New Delhi's digital theatres. The reception at the digital theatres will be through a dish antenna.

Known as E-cinema, this digital distribution and exhibition of films was successfully tested at Wave Multimedia in Ghaziabad last week, with a 40-minute screening of Tere Naam. Implementing this technology means there will be no time lag between the release of movies in metros and smaller towns. Theatres screening satellite-transmitted movies need to invest in digital projectors, servers and Ku-band receivers.

Earlier the digital distribution of Bollywood films started in 2003 with The Hero, with hard disks being sent physically to digital cinema halls.

Somehow I doubt this will be as good as a DLP presentation...

Yes, what resolution does this signal have?? The projectors
are 720p consumer type DLPs at best and I suspect the
signal is 480p (NTSC) or 576p (PAL). It looks like a good DVD.
But I have not yet found a technical description of
this ongoing digital revolution in India. There must be
something with details on the net!? :hmm:

Check out KISMAT trailers at:
http://www.indiafm.com/movies/kismat/index.htm

Lots of good songs and all in one film.

Looking at the trailers, it has more songs than Bobby Deol's Hunraaz and the music is equally good or better. I predict another Hit for Bobby, like Humraaz; another Hit for Priyanka like Andaaz.

A must see for me. Preferrably in a DD theatre.

First Day First Show reports are terrible.

http://www.indiafm.com/broadband/04/feb ... ndex.shtml

The audiences have rejected the film outright.

From its very promos, the film carried a 'run-of-the-mill' kind of image and we must add that it has lived up to its image. Director Guddu Dhanoa delivers yet another non-starter with Kismat after last year's Hawa and Jaal - The Trap. The film is a highly predictable fare and has nothing new to offer.

Read Kismat movie review
So bugged-off were the audiences that they weren't willing to speak about the film. The very few comments that pour in go like “film mein koi dum nahi”. If the comment is very ordinary, that's because the film is as much cliched. Even Priyanka's supposedly hot item numbers doesn't help this thanda film.

The Kismat (fate) of Kismat at the box-office is certainly mediocre.

Reviews are terrible as well.
http://www.indiafm.com/reviews/04/kismat/index.shtml

But it does say:
"--there's a song coming up after every 20 minutes… the cars explode on highways like gas-balloons…

Despite the predictable nature, the film does have its moments. A few well crafted sequences do catch your attention, like the initial portions between Bobby and Priyanka and some vibrant stunts."

But for me, with so many good song/ dance sequences, It's Paisa Vasool.
