K3G has 12 nomination in the popularity catagory over Dil Chahta Hai & Lagaan(in second place with 8 each). This is a joke. Mind you, i liked K3G, but the film was not even half as good as DCH or LAGAAN. I wonder what's gonna happen this upcoming saturday at the Filmfare Awards now that LAGAAN has gotten Oscar recognition? If Filmfare is smart, they would let LAGAAN sweep the awards in most of the main catagories such as (Best Director, Film, Music, Playback singer, etc..). My prediction is that Best Picture will either go to LAGAAN or GADAR, if any other film wins, than the award was rigged

All right, as much as I agree that Lagaan was vastly superior to K3G, let's not let the [American] Academy voters dictate [Indian] Filmfare voters' choice of what film they preferred!

Lagaan won an Oscar nomination b/c it had qualities found appealing by both Indian and non-Indian audiences -- that's fabulous, and I'm thrilled that B'wood might get some much-deserved international recognition! BUT -- some of the other films nominated for best picture won an even larger audience in India than Lagaan did, and though popularity should not be the sole factor by which the greatness of a film is judged, it is a very telling indication of how well a film succeeded in doing what it set out to do -- and Bollywood films certainly set out to do different things than American films, and that's part of why we all like them! So... may the film *Indians* liked best win the Filmfare awards! (And if that's Lagaan, so be it!)

...This is not directed specifically at you, obviously (in light of your "Gadar" comment), but generally at the people who are now touting Lagaan as the best thing since ice cream simply in reaction to Hollywood's acceptance of it...

You do bring up a good point about not letting international acceptance influence our preferences. But at the end of the day, I still think Lagaan deserves the Best Film award at any Indian ceremony. And my mind, regarding this, was made up well before the Oscar nominations came out yesterday.

HA HA HA Ha Ha Ha Ha......... Why am I laughing?

Quote:
Best Film
Gadar-Ek Prem Katha
Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham

What a Joke.
Mira Nair must be thinking what fools the 'BAFTA' must be for recognizing 'Monsoon Wedding' while the Indian awards have no time for it.

Quote:
Best Director
Anil Sharma (Gadar-Ek Prem Katha)
Karan Johar (Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham)

An even Bigger Joke.

Quote:
Best Actor
Sunny Deol (Gadar-Ek Prem Katha)

Has got to be the Biggest Joke.

Quote:
Best Actor In A Supporting Role
Ajay Devgan (Lajja)
Hrithik Roshan (Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham)

More Jokes.

Quote:
Best Actress In A Supporting Role
Jaya Bachchan (Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham)

This has got to be a misprint. I don't even find it funny.

Quote:
Best Performance In A Comic Role
Best Performance In A Villainous Role

The categories themselves are a joke.
If I were Saif Ali Khan, I would refuse to accept the award.

Quote:
Best Music Director
Anu Malik (Mujhe Kuchh Kehna Hai)
Jatin Lalit & Others (Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham)

Anu Malik must be wondering, did he not do Asoka this same year. ????
Jatin Lalit & Others must be thinking why be creative or work hard, jab award waalo ko ache ki tameez hi nahi hai.

Quote:
Best Lyricist
Sameer (Title Song...Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham)

Gulzar (Asoka) & Javed Akhtar (Dil Chahte Hai) should take lessons from Sameer about (Indian) awards.

Quote:
Best Male Playback Singer
Adnan Sami (Mehbooba Mehbooba... Ajnabee)

It must be my eyes. I keep reading Abhijeet (Roshni Se... Asoka). Seriously guys can Adnan Sami even sing?

Most Stupid/Silly Nominations according
-= IN MY HUMBLE OPINION =-

Best Film
Asoka (neither critically acclaimed nor popular)

Best Actor
Shah Rukh Khan (Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham)

what was it that SRK did in K3G that he didn't do before? What was the 'performance' aspect in his role?

Best Actress In A Supporting Role

Kareena Kapoor (Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham)
just wasn't good acting... maybe there wasn't any scope

Best Performance In A Comic Role

Saif Ali Khan (Dil Chahta hai)
-- to put him at par with Johnny Lever's brand of comedy is a nightmare. And ask Farhan Akhtar, was he a comedian in the film?

Best Performance In A Villainous Role

(the category should be renamed "Negative Role" to accommodate all this nominees)

Aftab Shivdasani (Kasoor)
Akshay Kumar (Ajnabee)
Amrish Puri (Gadar-Ek Prem Katha)
Manoj Bajpai (AKS)
Urmila Matondkar (Pyar Tune Kya Kiya)

Best Music Director
Anu Malik (Mujhe Kuchh Kehna Hai) (laff laff)
Jatin Lalit & Others (Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham) (more laff laff)

Best Lyricist

Sameer (Title Song...Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham)
-- just some usual rhyming words

Why isn't Monsoon Wedding nominated for best film? I think it was the best film made in 2001 by a mile...

Monsoon Wedding was not nominated because it was an original, well-made, intelligent, 'true to life' film. As a result, it did not appeal to the average Indian.

I agree with you completely but then again those other films nominated in filmfare can't even come close to Lagaan except DCH. I have been a big fan of Lagaan since June 15 2001 and was disappointed that most Indians went to watch K3G than Lagaan. And some poor folks eeven thought it was a flop!!!And now that Lagaan is nominated everyone's suddenly realised that its a better film. I hope this enthusiasm for Lagaan will not fade away if Lagaan does not win an Oscar.

Indian awards can never be credible. Amidst some good films, they are bound to put in crap like Gadar and K3G. The problem is that they are popularity contests at best and rigged-over-a-cup-of-coffee decisions at worst. I sincerely hope Aamir Khan sticks by his guns and boycotts them.

Like I mentioned in the titles of this thread,

Quote:
Not as important as Lagaan at the Oscars

All of these events regarding awards in India are always rigged one way or another, so who cares, obviously we at Zulm.net do to some extent who want the true winners to win, but in Indian they are either in it only for the money or were on drugs when they chose the nominees.

I think most of you will be surprised with Filmfare's Awards this year. I have a feeling that Lagaan will sweep the awards at Filmfare. However, if i am proven wrong, and Gadar sweeps the awards, I can understand that as well, because mind you, Gadar was highly more popular in 2001 in India than LAGAAN. And if, K3G does end of sweeping the awards. Than I will truly be convinced that Filmfare Awards were and perhaps have always been rigged.
