*** I missed HALF TIME SHOW, as I had company and REPLAYS are SENSORED? may be SUPER BOWL DVD has it?

Thanks to Janet & Justin, Grammies will have delayed telecast

February 04, 2004 11:41 IST

The Grammies won't be telecast live this year.

Thanks to Justin Timberlake ripping off Janet Jackson's bustier at last Sunday's Super Bowl, revealing the pop singer's right breast, CBS announced yesterday that its broadcast of next Sunday's Grammy Awards will be broadcast with a five second delay.

CBS also telecast the Super Bowl -- arguably America's biggest annual sporting event -- live, and Jackson/Timberlake's antics led to many red faces at the network.

Even though CBS producers quickly cut from the display of Jackson's breast to other scenes at the Super Bowl, photographs of the incident were seen all over the world. MTV -- which, like CBS, is owned by Sumner Redstone's Viacom Corporation -- produced the half-time show at the Super Bowl, that also starred Kid Rock, Nelly and P Diddy.

The five-second delay will enable CBS producers to censor the show if it gets too raunchy and inappropriate for family viewing.

Such delayed broadcasts were common on American television in the 1960s and 1970s when audiences were less forgiving of gross conduct that entertainers are notorious for. Bleep Bleep was a sound heard often enough during telecasts of showbiz events. But, as audiences matured, television producers dumped the delayed broadcast and took the risk of beaming the show live to millions of people the world over.

Jackson has apologized for the stunt. 'It was not my intention that it go as far as it did,' she said in a statement. 'I apologize to anyone offended.'

Michael Powell, chairman of America's Federal Communications Commission and US Secretary of State Colin Powell's son, has launched an investigation into the incident. If it is proven that it was deliberate, CBS, MTV and 216 of its affiliates may be fined $27,000 each.

Star World will telecast the Grammies live in India. Indian audiences can see it early on Monday, February 9, morning.

Timberlake, nominated for five Grammies, is scheduled to perform at the event. After the Super Bowl, no prizes surely for guessing that Justin's act will be a solo.

There was a picture (uncensored) in the local news paper. Janet genuinely and un-mistakenly looks shocked, angry and embarrased all in one. This can't be acting. Must have been un-planned.

Must be a genuine coincidence that she has a new album coming out and now she happens to be the talk of the town! :baaa: Any kind of publicity is good publicity when you are celebrity.

it HAD to have been planned...the pictures dont show anything...watch the vids...they are available on sites for sure...give it a search. all the evidence matches. the song that justin was singing was "by the end of this song, i want to see your naked body."...the patch on that breast was HAD velcrow straps, that can EASILY be torn off...the "incident" happened at the exact end of the song...and she didn't even put the "patch" back on for about 30 seconds. Plus, she needed some publicity for her new ablum coming out next month...and she sure as hell got it. btw, what the HELL did she have on her nipple. that wasn't an accident. at alllll...

Janet Jackson dumped from Grammies( nOT JUSTIN? as SHE had the ASSETS to SHOW not JUSTIN)

February 05, 2004 17:08 IST

Janet Jackson has been dumped from this Sunday's Grammy Awards ceremony.

People magazine says the network, anxious to ward off criticism of the Super Bowl controversy, canceled its invitation to Jackson to appear on the show.

Michael Jackson's younger sister was to have introduced a tribute to Luther Vandross.

MTV, which produced the half-time show during the Super Bowl, is livid with Jackson. Both CBS and MTV are owned by the Viacom Corporation.

'Janet Jackson engineered it,' MTV CEO Tom Freston said on Wednesday.

Jackson apologized a second time yesterday via videotape. 'I am really sorry if I offended anyone. That was truly not my intention. My decision to change the Super Bowl performance was actually made after the final rehearsal. MTV (who produced the half-time show at the Super Bowl), CBS (who telecast the Super Bowl), the NFL (National Football League, which hosts the most watched sporting event in America) had no knowledge of this whatsoever, and unfortunately, the whole thing went wrong in the end,' she said.

Her accomplice at the Super Bowl, pop star Justin Timberlake, is scheduled to perform at the Grammies. He has also been nominated for five Grammies, including Album of the Year.

It is unlikely that CBS will cancel its invitation to Timberlake.

What are you talking about? That was arguably one of the best played Superbowls ever. The first quarter and half ver kinda boring but after that it was very exciting.
