Raj Kumar Santoshi's biggest failure has got to be 'Damini'. Not a commercial failure but rather an artisitic one. Why, you may ask do I feel so. Simply because it was the most powerful story that he got to work with, which he totally marred with a poor script and bad direction. In my opinion the story of Damini, was so powerful that if it had been scripted well and directed welll, it cvould have been one of the greatest Indian films of all times. But instead, what Raj Kumar Santoshi ended up making was an over melodramatic, LOUD, and totally bereft of any LEGAL correctness, film. One would think, that when you make a film with the courtroom and the legal system being the central part of the film, that the least the director would do is learn a little bit about the laws and how the judicial system works in India. I would think that the film makers would a hire a legal advisor to guide them with the script, but obviously this was not the case with Damini.

Amongst the zillions of flaws and holes in the script, there are two that stand out the most. The first one being, who in the world is Sunny Deol's character and who let him in the courtroom to begin with. The second one being, at what stage did Meenakshi Sheshadri become the accused instead of just a witness and what legal grounds did the court commit her to an asylum.

The movie actually won 'National awards'. That was the day I lost respect for them too, having lost respect for the Filmfare awards long before.

Going by the dialogues from the promos, this film looks too self-applauding, suggesting that we can expect nothing beyond already visible facts. I'm almost convinced, Ramu will probably mess this one up too, he'll induce his director to throw in alot of frail Hollywood style gimmicks.

RKS isn't bad for the old fogey league of directors who are for the most part, generally retarded like Subhash Ghai, Anil Sharma, JP Dutta, Indra Kumar, Mehul Kumar, Saawan Kumar Tak, Feroze Khan, Lawrence D'Souza etc... (you get idea). RKS can stand proud among such losers, but RGV he is not.
