I was wondering how do they classify a film as 'Coverage', 'Hit', etc when they also state film to have costed double the price for which it was sold to the distributors??

For Example:

1) http://www.planetbollywood.com/BoxOffic ... 161930.php

"While Khakee, is a 25-28 cr movie, sold to the distributors in India for a total cost of 13.25 cr, Aetbaar, has a budget of 13-15 cr but cost to distributors in India is barely 4.5 cr."

2) Similarly, Janasheen was stated to be 18 cr film that was sold to all the theatrical distributors for 11 cr, made 11 cr and classified as 'Coverage' Where do they recover the remaining 7 cr to break even??

Similarly, if Khakee is a 28 cr film and sold for a total of 13 cr, where do the producers recover the remaining 15 cr to break even?? Same for Aetbaar and other films.

Another Q: If Aetbaar is a 15 cr film and sold for only 5 cr so as the distributors recover their price and classify as 'Coverage or Hit' even if it costed 15 cr to make the film??

??

You haven't factored in rights for DVD, audio and Satellite...as well as overseas theatrical rights....though I think these revenue streams are faltering due to rampant piracy.

If that's where more than half the revenues generated, no wonder theatrical screenings are fast disappearing. I still doubt, they can recover close to 10 cr in case of Janasheen and 15 cr from Khakee non theatrical rights.

Looks like, films made for home viewing can't loose. Theatrical screenings may run at loss, but not home viewing.
