Am I the only one who thought Munnabhai MBBS was just plain bad? Despite being a huge fan of Vidhu Vinod Chopra.

I didn't think it was bad. I enjoyed it, but its disposable entertainment that left me with no lasting impact. I wouldn't mind seeing it again, though it was overlong, but it is the type of film one forgets soon after it ends.

I agree!! it is not one of great CINEMA!! that will linger on u, but was unexpectedly ENJOYABLE for me, with lackluster cast, besides SANJU, LAME music, besides jhun jhun, No glamour, babes, hotty face value!! NO exotic locales, and exubarant SFX, production values!

Simple, yet enjoyable, and PAISA VASOOL!

That's precisely why I dislike Munnabhai MBBS, it does nothing for me. I can't stand the type of entertainment where it's main purpose is to entertain it's audience for it's given duration, ultimiately leaving us to feel nothing for it afterwords.

Much of what I watch tends not to be popcorn stuff like Munnabhai, so I occasionally watching an enjoyable piece of fluff, but even then I still have some standards. Munnabhai was executed better than what I would have expected, even though it is basically an American formula film where the hardhearts eventually are won over by the rebellious good guy. I probably would have hated the film if it was an American film, but frankly, with Indian films, it seems all we can ask for these days is something enjoyable while we are watching it that isn't absolute tripe :nopity: I may grow to dislike the film the more I think about it, like with Kaante and Bhoot.

But if it makes you feel better, I saw Monster a few hours later to redeem myself. Charlize Theron's performance is still in my mind

Fair enough. But just out of curiosity, have you seen Mumbai Matinee? If so, what did you think of it? I think it's one of 2003s most underappreciated films.

I didn't see Mumbai Matinee, but I've heard that those Anant Balani films aren't very good.

Whomever told you that must have been a fan of the David Dhawan cinema of filmmaking. Mumbai Matinee is a Bollywood cinematic satire. Though, this one is more for the mature audience, nothing here is for the little kiddies. This film also has some vital things to say about human sexuality and our attitudes towards dealing with safe & unsafe sex. Also, the acting here by the lead performers is aptly presented.

Shankar Dada MBBS-What's that?

Image

After 'Munnabhai MBBS', get ready for 'Shankar Dada MBBS'. It is the Telugu version of the Hindi original. Chiranjeevi will play the lead (the character of Sanjay Dutt), while Gracy Singh's role will be essayed by Sohali Bohare. Arshad Warsi's role is being played by Srikant. The Telugu version will be directed by well-known south director, Jayant Paranje.

I saw Monster the other night, and I don't see what the big deal is about this film. It was soo stale, Charlize Theron's voice-overs felt too contrived. And god knows how Roger Ebert goes off claiming Theron's performance as one of the best ever witnessed onscreen. I was more astonished by her makeup(which totally made her unrecognizable) than her actual dramatization. And it's pretty amazing how importantly the Academy listen's to Roger Ebert, since he was pretty much the only film critic who actually gives a damn about this film.

Having said that, I had the opportunity of also seeing The Triplets of Belleville--it was truly an ingenious piece of work and quite possibly the best and equally lovable animated film I have ever seen since Fantasia(1940).
