The charishma of Big B even at this age when all his co-stars are fading away is still tremendous. This article is to all of Amitabh's die hard fans and also to those who does not likes him, read this and you will start appreciating him.

That's how he gets the strength to sleep so little!

AB needs to be more selective about the projects he does. It seems every other week he is in some movie or the other, and they're not always good. Boom, anyone? Come on, man, give us a chance to miss you!

Not enough sleep? It's not as if he's fighting a war in Kargil or Iraq. More importantly, has anyone noticed he can't act. Not anymore at least. And I highly doubt he knows anything about filmmaking. He's just a resident winner of lame popularity contests. :p

Though I will not be as harsh as Aryan, I somewhat agree w/ him. Amitabh can act, but he is one dimensional. What I can't believe is that after all these years in films, I doubt he realizes that he is one dimensional. That is why for every "same old melodramatic" amitabh film he makes, he matches it with a film in which he is completely out of place. However what he lacks in acting he makes up in charisma and screen presence.

Btw, Sholay is an absolutely horrible film!

lets see...

You take the stories from 3 of the most popular films ever made...

1) Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969)

2) The Magnificent Seven (1960)

3) Once Upon a Time in the West (1968)

Then you add...

1) A goofy villain (Amjad Khan)

2) A miscast hero (Dharmendra)

3) A ridiculous climax

And what do you get?

The most overrated Indian film of all time, SHOLAY

Your forgetting that all those popular films you have added actually was inspired from other world cinema classics like Kurosawa's Seven Samurai and Renoir's Grand Illusion.

It doesn't matter if its copied what matters if they copied it good! An example of this is Hop-Hop a the perfect art form to show just how a 2 beat step added onto a piece of classical music by Mozart or Bach can help to elavate it even further for modern audiences.

And to say Big B is crap is blasphemous and shows how many audiences mis-understand great performances. I am so glad for my intelligence...1+1 is 2 :)

You are absolutely correct that Renoir, Kurosawa and obviously John Ford (the greatest director ever) were "inspirations" for these later films. However when you take the same movies and just add different actors they can no longer be called inspirations.

"It doesn't matter if its copied what matters if they copied it good!"

I must strongly disagree with you there (for reasons I have already pointed out). But hey, different strokes for...

"And to say Big B is crap is blasphemous and shows how many audiences mis-understand great performances."

(Is this directed towards me?) I never said this

Sour grapes? About what? What do I have to lose? I don't have favourite actors - they earn vulgar amounts of money so, they'd better be good at what they do.

Sholay was a good film for 1975 but definitely overhyped. By today's standards it hardly qualifies as a B movie.

Actually I sort of suggested this. :baaa:

Blasphemous? Talk about blind faith.

And intelligence. :tounge:

"The problem with the people is, they don't appreciate others untill those others are no more there"
Guys, I have started this topic just to show how punctual and fine actor Big B is, I am BB fan and this topic was meant only for those people who knows to appreciate right things in life. Also this topic was never meant to hurt any one else's feeling. If you cannot appreciate a good actor then atleast dont criticize him. If he is having so much of popularity among people then that itself suggests that he is good actor.

"Critics are born pessimistics, who dont believe in peaceful world"

Popularity doesn't prove anything. SRK and Julia Roberts are immensely popular, but they're not good actors. McDonald's is probably the most numerous restaurant in the world but the food is crap. Reality TV in the US gets great ratings. Britney Spears concerts sell out. There are tons of examples of popular trash.

I don't watch AB's 70s and 80s films religiously, and I prefer other types of films, but he was good at them, and I can't imagine anyone else doing his roles.

Sholay itself is a good but flawed film. It's sort of silly (even for this film) for two guys to defeat all those men. The film is a good example of taking foreign influences, namely Kurosawa, Leone, and Renoir :hmm:, and creating something uniquely Indian with them.
