Mine are the following;

Sandiyar - Kamal Hassan - Aprii 2004
Already proving to be controversial the violent plot line has already upset people down south. Kamal Hassan has called this film "his ode to rural stories." There are rumours of the climax being quite bloody featuring a bullfight and swords - ouch. Animal lovers...beware. After the wonderful screenplays of Anbe Sivam, Hey Ram and the underrated Aala Vandhan one can expect a fashioned screenplay to cater to the needs of audience wanting a good story.

Weapons of Warriors/Aayudha Yezhuthu - Mani Ratnam May 2004
While many are awating the Hindi version (Yuva), I will await for the Tamil version. Sure the Hindi version will have great stars, better technical values and even a bigger budget (four times the size when compared to the Tamil version). But after experincing a backlash with Hindi audiences with his ode to love Dil Se... Ratnam has decided to make the Hindi version more commercialized, while the Tamil verison will be more subtle and will consist of realistic mise-en scene. As he stated on Deepam TV the differences will be like that of Alay Payuthey and Saathiya (its Hindi remake). He approved of both dispite both having different approches to the story and felt it catered to its audiences. Also to see Siddhart (Boys), Surya (Kaaka Kaaka) and Mahdevan (KM, Run) together will be something special. All three are amazing talented actors, and will also help to make the film intresting in thier own right.

Its funny to note that Ratnam hired north Indian's that have that south Indian look for his Hindi version. Little B, Ajay Devgan and Vivek Oberoi!! As my mate pointed out they are all dark skinned :) Could it be a statement? I told her it was just concidence.

Dev - Govind Nihalani Mid 2004
Bachchan and Nihalani...need I say more???

I'll add more later...

1857-The Rising
Aamir Khan is simply the most fertile actor working in India today. His ideologies on films is more about quality as opposed to quantity. Knowing his track record he left with in 2001, I can be beyond sure that the next time I step into a cinema hall for a film starring Aamir Khan, I'll not only be getting my money's worth, but his product might even be something inducing as well.

Netaji
Shyam Benegal has always been pretty artistic making autobiographical films, Netaji however seems to be more of a commercial concentrated film, is this a first for him? Let's see how this one turns out. Plus, after a haunting soundtrack like Zubeidaa, the duo of Javed Aktar & A.R. Rahman team once again with Benegal.

Black
His last film was visually poetic, and now, it seems that he's moving onto something more towards crepuscular grounds with Black. A film about a deaf, blind, and mute man (Amitabh Bachchan). Bhansali is soo hypnotized with visual aid, it'll be interesting to see how he uses his style with this film.

Lakshya (I think that's how it's spelled)
I loved Farhan Aktar's debut. His direction is increasingly innovative. Alot has been said about his working ethics during a shoot. Well, to me, he's here to change to rules of typical Bollywood mannerism on and off screen. I can almost guarantee that Lakshya will be nothing less than something refreshing to see.

Swades
Ashutosh Gowariker's next film after Lagaan. Word is that, the film is about India's brain-drain issue.

One has heard of films getting delayed in the making . But Govind Nihalani´s must be a unique case . Although his Dev stars big and busy names like Amitabh Bachchan , Kareena Kapoor and Fardeen Khan , it will reach the finishing point , at least three months before schedule ! The impossible feat would be achieved , thanks to Amitabh´s co-operation with the filmmaker .

It so happened that a film Bachchan was to start , got delayed . With bulk dates (which the superstar had allotted to that film ) now available with him , Amitabh decided to give them away to Govind Nihalani if he wanted it . The filmmaker was , of course overjoyed . Without losing any time , he mixed and matched the dates of the other actors of the film and began his last shooting schedule pronto and that would conclude by the month end , after which his shooting would be complete .

Nihalani does not know whom to thank more - the Dev (God) up there or the screen God , Bachchan !

I'm looking forward to some of those RGV productions, such as Ek, Nimmi, and Ab Tak 56.

1. Aayudha Yezhuthu - It's Mani Rathnam what more can I say.

2. Sandiyar- From the stills of this movie it look likes Kamal Hassan is ready to kick some ass! Pulling the sword or knife , or whatever from under the shirt is really cool! Expecting a lot of gruesome violence from this one.

3. Lakshya- Kicking AB out of the set. It takes balls. I think Farhan Aktar got it! Expecting something new and different from this one.

Thats about it for right now!

Ur dam right about the violence. I saw the making of (courtesy of my friend and her lovely cable box) and man I saw scenes of a cow being buchered, and stickles doing the upmost damage to human faces.

I wonder how the religious people gonna take this film?? Especially with the cow massacre scene.

Rumors are that these scenes will be cut by Indian censor board, and if released in the UK it will be cut by the BBFC.

Does this mean that an Ayngaran or Tamilini DVD of Sandiyar will be incomplete?

Nothing like some gratuitous violence and hip shaking to wake up the old ladies at the Indian censor board. :baaa: :bash:

2003 has been a very dismal year as far as quality goes. Here's my list, with the most eagerly anticipated film on top.

1. Lakshya
2. Swades
3. Ek
4. The Rising
5. Yuva
6. Black

People like Farhan Akhtar in the industry have the potential of radically changing the way Bollywood works. Kicking spoilt and pampered prima donnas like AB around is a start.

For all those who have the Baghban DVD, check out the last bit of the 'making of Baghban'. The tempestous diva aka 'AB the baby' throws down an 18% grey card in frustration because he is made to hold it at the start of every can of film. This is a standard practice when shooting on film for correct calibration of highlights and shadows during processing and telecine.

The old fogey actually tells the filmmakers that its not necessary and stop wasting film...go figure!

Ab Tak 56 Chappan, according to IndiaFM will release sometimes in Jan/Feb. of 2004. Of late, I haven't heard anything on any of Ram Gopal Verma's other new offerings (ie. Nimmi, Ek, etc.). However, I've read somewhere that Ramu is planning a pre-show to the Company gang-saga called "D", where(obviously)the film ends where Company began. To be directed by one of Ramu's assistant technicians.

Don't make any bets on Ek. I'll be even surprised if the film even goes into production in 2004. Nothing beyond the anoucement of the film(which was earlier this year) has taken forward. My guess is that, it's colossal budget is the cause of a hold on the film's production.

I'm looking forward to next year, but i had the same hope for some of the films this year, but it ended up being a crap year for bollywood. Here's hoping 2004 will reverse that

1. Lakshya
2. Swades
3. The Rising
4. The New Yash Chopra Project
5. Yuva
6. Black
7. Any other SRK films

I'd have to say:

- Mangal Pandey: The Rising
Why? AAMIR KHAN is reason enough!

- Swades
The follow up to Lagaan and a different role for SRK?

- Ek
Talk about casting coup. I don't know if this one's releasing next year but if it is, it has international acclaim written all over it!

- Black
Bhansali makes visually poetic cinema, plus with AB and Rani!

- Lakshya
Reason: Farhan Akhtar all the way! Plus having Hrithik and Preity is icing on the cake.

- Kisna
Vivek Oberoi plus rumoured Hrithik Roshan in the film?

"Bride and Prejudice", as I think this will take off from where "Monsoon Wedding" left off in terms of impact of Indian cinema in the West, though its not Indian cinema per se. I cannot wait to see an Anu Malik song playing in my local IMAX theater!

I dont think Aish will even do that film with Meryl Streep as she is simply not good enough for that sort of role. She may well be the most gorgeous woman on earth but she is quite obviously the least intelligent. Have you heard her at the Cannes interview in that suddenly put on Brit-American quasi continental accent? Ridiculous. The only thing she kept repeating was 'Its an honor' and all the same cliched statements only she can come up with. Its a pity that shes getting all this attention when the only true beauty queen with any acting ability (Sushmita Sen) is being totally sidelined.
