Just reviewed my collection of DEI/BEI dvds purchased in the last 3-6 months from IW.

Mother India (1957) and Nastik (1983) were functioning properly on arrival, but have developed a serious defect over time rendering them useless.

Adalat (1977) was faulty on arrival.

Aandhi (1975) and Sharmilee (1971) seems suspicicous as they won't work on my PC, but fully functioning on the dvd recorder. I think they will eventually rot. I wonder if dvd rot of this nature has some sort of time span, ie make or break period, after which there is no change...?

What is the point in producing next to perfect prints, if we can't see them? With BEI it seems to be all or nothing! Market leaders like Eros and YashRaj hardly bother with any print restoration, but at least their dvds work.

I think if members are going to continue to support BEI, they should seek assurance that these manufacuring defects have been resolved. Reputable retailers like IW need to think twice before continuing to churn out dvds from batches that have been identified as faulty.

If BEI have any sort of customer satisfaction policy, they should replace titles that rot over such a short period of time. Retailers such as IW are unlikely to take any responsibility once 15 days have elapsed from the date of purchase.

All the more reason why everyone should buy only pirates or duplicate DEI/BEI dvds i rather pay for yashraj cause it last forever and to have a DEI/BEI over a life time you may have to buy about 10 of the same dvd cause of disc rot add that up and it will surpass the price of 1 yashraj :keh: :keh:

Clipper, they're ALL corrupt if you ask me... expensive discs with no restoration to old prints or excellent prints with severe manufacturing defects... In all fairness, most of the brands make a few good dvds and many bad ones as well, and BEI is no exception. I think its time I got a dvd recorder and start copying titles myself...
:D

Pratiggya (1975) starring Dharmendra and Hema Malini, released by DEI/BEI, arrived this morning from IW. It has a severe manufacturing defect in the sense there is no menu, no start, rewind, forward, or stop option. It plays automatically and viewers have no control over it, and invariably freezes towards the middle.

I would be grateful if members could use this thread to report faulty DEI/BEI discs. This would act as a WARNING for people to avoid these titles.

It appears retailers, no names mentioned, continue to sell titles from a batch that is acknowledged as defective!

Sknath, I don't have BEI's Parvarish ...ended up getting the Shemaroo's version a week before it was released. In light of the risks, I'll stick with it.

Shuman, my Swayamvaar by BEI is still working, although its only 2 months old.

Armaan...
1.) Do you get the DEI logo for Pratiygya ? I have that dvd with me and it has all the stuff u said it doesnt have ???

2.) You may have ended up with a copied version aka a Pirate... return it immediately for a full refund !

3.) Avoid all those DEI dvds which are being sold at 2.99/3.99/4.99 etc... They are garbage dvds... pirated and not on proper media. Sell them as soon as possible. Maybe eBay would be a better place. Plenty of fools there who will pick up ur stuff :)

As Pratiggya is faulty on arrival, I will return it to IW within 15 days for a refund. It appears to be as 'genuine' as the others, and have a DEI and indiaplaza logo on it. Maybe yours is from older stock. As for the price, I got IW to price beat Nehaflix at $7.99, so its not even that cheap.

Interestingly, I got Mere Huzoor (1968) for $3.99, it has BEI logo, appears to be of gold media, and works fine!

To say that these discs are not genuine DEI is also saying that IW is not genuine! If I was to pass these faulty discs to innocent customers of ebay.com, I would me reinforcing corruption in what is already a very very corrupt market... It is manufacturers like BEI that needs to take responsibilty for their faulty goods, if zulmis are going to continue supporting them.

Actually it has come to my attention that all my faulty DEI/BEI discs have a DEI and indiaplaza logo. They are not new BEI with their huge 'Bollywood Entertainment' logo everywhere. I wonder if that makes any difference?

Whenever you get a DEI/BEI DVD, please tell us on what media (gold or silver) it was pressed.

What about starting a gold media/silver media list?

DragonR2, I will contribute to the media list that you mentioned, but the topic is a bit technical for me take responsibility. There appears to be various shades of gold, silver and in-betweens that I get confused!
:D

Armaan if you recall, when these discs arrived in the market.. DEI was not there in the market anymore.. they were bankrupt. So ppl started pirating those dvds and hence thats what you get.
The best you can do is wait for DEI to re-release them with the BEI logo and then maybe you can buy them .. Make sure they have the BEI logos and intro's in them .. else return them :)

I think that makes sense. I used to be happy when IW distributed a DEI dvd rather than a BEI, as BEI's covers and logo is horrible. Now I'm worried about my other DEI logo dvds received in the last 6 months...

armaan, you are worried with a smile? ??? :)

anyway.. i recently bought "BEi's Dhaai Akshar Prem Ke". and to my surprise, i noticed the intro (including all menus) are in poor transfer. looks like someone copied dvd to dvd. There is significant amount of pixellation/distortions. However, i quickly scanned the feature film, and didn't notice any distortion on the movie itself. how strange! screenshots will be posted shotly.

??? :hmm:
