Was in Southall today and I came across what I looked like the new Umrao jaan dvd by DEI. On closer inspection, I learned it was actually by some company called tip top. Any 1 know they are? May be desiguy or ali can confirm whether or not they are pirates.

Nope..That is the LEGITIMATE DEI ...version of Umrao Jaan.
DEI cannot do their own marketing in the <s>USA</s> UK and hence they have teamed up with tip-top video who do their distribution in UK and Europe. For this Tip-Top gets a chance to place their Logo on a DEI brand you may see in any retail store there in the UK...

These are again not my words..but quoted by Sandish @ DEI

Yes, Tip Top Video are based in Wembley, London. I am a regular customer of them - very fast, competitive prices too.

Their Web site is; http://www.tiptopvideo.co.uk/. The two guys who own Tip Top are Ashok and Sunil Shah.

Interesting that you should mention this today, DragunR2, because I also tried watching my copy of DEI Umrao Jaan obtained from IW for the first time and sure enough, it does not even load. I can sort of get it to play by entering the chapter number but none of the options really work. I have to watch the entire movie or nothing. At this point I was fed up and did not bother. I had got this copy sometime in Dec. 2002 and not really watched it.

Do you know if BEI will replace it as it is their product?

They should be raally selling DEI products under the Tip-Top brand as the contact has now run out. Apollo are the new distributors for BEI in the UK. But it seems that Tip-Top continue to sell and release BEI titles....under thier name...

I always check my dvds on arrival by skipping chapters and songs even if I don't want to watch the film. If the dvd was faulty on arrival, thats typical of DEI/BEI - I had the same problem with Amitabh's Nastik and Adalat. If the dvd has rotted over time, that's more worrying...

Turns out I also have the Tip Top version of the DEI dvd. So, why did IW sell me a UK version of the dvd in the US?
