I am planning to visit India within couple of weeks. I would like to take a dvd player with me.

Which will be the best dvd player (Multi-system, region-free/code free) to carry which is available in USA?

I was looking at some of them like Cyberhome CH-500, Toshiba SD-3900, Dawoo S150

Hi,
when i went to india , I took Philips724 (progressive system,multi system and ofcourse region code free).It worked fine for me but the only problem was I had to buy an convertor(220v/110v). If you are comfortable with this then I would recommed you this one. quality is good for the given price($170 including shipping).

In case you are planning to buy a DVD player specially for your trip to India, then I suggest you just buy the player here in India itself. You can get a Pioneer, Progressive, Multi Zone DVD player for no more than Rs 6500 (approx $140). By the way even if you have just a Zone 1 player you should be fine, since all Libraries here keep only Zone 1 DVDs and as for the pirated ones, they are not region coded. Of course you do have to keep in mind that you would need a 110 to 220V converter, which does not cost much though.

I think most of the dvds in this range in india are 2 channels. One of my friend bought dvd player of LG brand, His was 2 channel system and costed him Rs 8500. so better watch to all this specifications before buying.

I am not quite sure I understand what you mean by 2 channel system. As far as I know every single DVD player has a digital output which provides for 5.1 sound thru a Dolby Digital decoder. The number of channels is something determined by the software (DVD) rather than the DVD player itself.

I bought Liteon LVD-2001 player yesterday. It supports dual voltage, has prog scan, plays pal-ntsc, upscales upto 1080i, plays divx files, plays photo vcd, mpeg files, comes with 2 adapters for compact flash card and all types of memory card to view digital pic directly by inserting the adapter in the dvd player. can easily make region code free and macrovision free by remote -> press open/close->2->9->6->0 and you have access to secret menu. So far I love this unit. In USA you can only buy it from http://www.pcclub.com.
