Arsh, how was the sound on the Shemaroo dvd, mainly for the Taal songs. I recently ordered Taal from IW just to listen to ARR's music in glorious 5.1 cuz the film is crap. Anyway, IW sent me the Shemaroo version instead of the Eros/B4U one. So I'm wondering if I should bother returning it. Picture is pretty bad on both imo, but at least the Eros one is anamorphic. If the Shemaroo version doesn't have good sound then I'm gonna have to speak to Afzal (whose number I can't find). Please let me know asap, thanks.

I'm puzzled with Malfunxion's comments about Taal.

Arsh has posted comparative screen caps of EROS-B4U Taal and from Taal songs in Shemaroo AR Rehmaan DVD. The screen shots look about same qualitry. In some respects EROS and in other respect it's Shemaroo.

Now, cosidering that AR Rehmaan DVD has copied, not replicated, songs in field average interlace mode and at a lower bit rate, the original Shemaroo Taal, which is Pseudo-progressive, should be better. Shemaroo Taal should have same PQ as other Shemaroo Ghai collection. I'm trying to get one Shemaroo Taal, directly from India.

Rana

As I mentioned the PQ is sort of secondary right now because I only bought the DVD for the songs. If the Shemaroo version has pseudo 5.1 or just average surround then it's not worth it for me. I probably won't be watching the picture anyway, just put on a song and then go to channel surfing cuz as I mentioned the film is crap and I have no interest in watching it again.

The pros for Eros is that I know it has good sound, and it's anamorphic (if someone does want to watch it) so I don't have to deal with bars on all 4 sides on my WS TV that I'll soon purchase. And if I recall correctly it's progressive too right??
Nevertheless, if the sound on Shemaroo is fine I don't mind keeping it.

Yaar how come no one gives any importance to sound here. Please comment on the sound quality and whether it is in real 5.1 or not. In a music DVD this would be of the utmost importance I would think, not that it is not important for movie DVDs.

I think it's cuz most people probably don't have a proper 5.1 setup and are listening to the sound through their tv speakers, so it all sounds the same to them!!

out!!!!!!!

As you say, Sound is more important to you, then choice is between known and unknown. EROS version, you know, is true 5.1 (yes, it's progressive and anamorphic as well). Shemaroo version too, is listed as true 5.1 (only a few Shemaroo DVDs are listed as true 5.1 and Taal is amongst them; So may be, it's real 5.1 after all), but no one here on zulm has tested it yet. May be you can be the first one to test it?? Seems like only you have this Shemaroo version, which no one else seem to have seen it outside of India. Sanjay in India, might check it in India, but he too is away.

I'll get my Shemaroo copy in about 6 weeks (some one bringing it), only then can I check it.

I'm getting the following Shemaroo DVDs while in India next week.

1) Champion
2) Chori Chori Chupke Chupke
3) Hero
4) Pardes
5) Badhaai Ho Badhaai

I guess we can do a screen shot comparison against the Eros Chori Chori Chupke chupke and Shemaroo as well as Padres, and video sounds Badhaai Ho Badhaai.. Not sure who released champion in the USA/Canada. All of Shemaroo DVDs are now RS 349 or US $7.62 cents.

I opened the Shemaroo Taal and the sound is true 5.1 and pretty good at that. PQ is basically the same as the Song DVD without the logo. Will provide some screenshots later.

In case of PARDES, DEI-EROS version is unbeatable, both in PQ and Audio.
