I am travelling to the US on the 1st of August and on my way back to India, I and my daughter will be stopping in London for a day. Leaving US on the 5th arriving 9:00 AM at Heathrow on the 6th and then leaving Heathrow at 9:30 AM on the 7th to come back to Delhi.

I was hoping you guys could suggest what would be a good place to stay and mode of travel. Also what are the things to do during the 1 day (6th August, Wednesday) we will be in London. One of the things I was thinking of doing is watching 'Bombay Dreams', although I don't know what the ticket situation will be like. But it is definately one fo the things we would like to do.

Basically I would just like to take my 10yr old daughter around London and show her a few interesting spots. Would like to avoid travelling too much and also a hotel near the airport would be preferable since we have to catch an early flight on the 7th.

All inputs will be appreciated.

Thanks.

Not in London, but if you'll be visiting NYC on your trip to USA and need to know what to do there, I could suggest lots of activities.

Sanjay - be prepared to travel considerably when coming to London.... heathrow is quite a distance from the centre, and you`ll have to rely upon the tubes to get about.... unless ure considering catching the taxi around london.. be prepared to pay ££££s for it!! As for intersting spots around London, errr.. with the current state of weather just make sure u bring ureself an umbrella.. its been raining cats and dogs over here.. and it looks as though it`ll be getting worse.... personally i dont like london, if u had longer, ther wud have been better places for u too visit around the UK.. but as time is limited.. just check out buckingham palace, madam tussauds (AB WAX THING  ) and just shop.... hope u have a good time.. cos i totally detest London, its just too busy to even concentrate for a short while...

Dear Sanjay,

Firstly regarding Bombay Dreams, you can book your ticket from this website. I have put down details below of the show you can visit.

http://ticketmaster.co.uk/cgi....Theatre

Bombay Dreams
APOLLO VICTORIA THEATRE,
LONDON Wed 06/08/03,
19:45

Many places to visit in London.

Tower Bridge (or London Bridge as you know it), Buckingham Palace (Queen's joint), Big Ben (massive clock) , Westminister (where politicians gather and talk crap, nice building though), Trafalgar Square (where Amrish Puri feeds the doves in DDLJ), Piccadilly Circus (lively mall), Oxford Road (shopping), London Eye (Very big moving wheel from where you can see whole of London, which I recommend). Madamme Tussauds (lots of people replicated in wax including our own Big B), London Museum (lots of old stuff), Harrods (shopping, lots of expensive gear). Southall (West London, India-town, close to Heathrow, lots of desi food, clothes, audio shops etc).

I hope this helps

Regards

Kashee

From heathrow or gatwick you can catch an express train into the centre of town, its not cheap about £15 but is very quick and worth it if you haven't a lot of time.

Try lastminute.com for tickets too, you can have the theatre tickets left at the box office for your collection using your credit card as ID if you want.

Southall is worth a vist for all desis, and is very near heathrow, loads of asian clothes, food, music, movie stores!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Otherwise check out the london eye, parliment, big ben, the many museums! Enjoy your trip!

Regards travelling, they used to-do all day tickets for the underground - just get one of these and follow the maps on the underground to go anywhere in London. Travelling by car is painful in central London! As I remember the underground is marked as 6/7 zones and you can get day travel cards to go to all zones relatively cheaply.

Info on the underground;

Thanks for all the replies and info guys. Zulmi hone ka phayda ho gaya. :) I have to leave now to go catch my flight to the US but I will check in on zulm.net before I leave for London from the US, to catch up on any other info posted by you guys here.

The one thing I do need some info on is regarding hotel for the night. Can someone suggest what might be a good place to stay, something not too expensive but clean and decent and not too far from the airport, I would think. Also any idea how much should I expect to pay for a nights stay at the hotel. Gotta plan how many 'Pounds' to carry, uff why can't UK just switch to the Euro like most other countries in Europe.

Once again thanks for all the input.

there are loads of cheap hotel chains in the Uk and europe

cheapest I can think of is the hotel ibis (3*) about 65 pounds plus for a single/double room depending on when you book (they have a web site somewhere so you can advance book if you like dunno what it is though!). It's not fancy but it's cheap!

slightly more expensive

holiday inn
thistle hotel (can pay from 80-100 for a night there)

these are chains so there are a few of them all over the place and in the best bits of london too.....where ever you stay you'll have to use the underground to get around anyway unless you cab it which is obviously more expensive....more expensive hotels are the dorchester, waldorf etc then your talking $$$$!

a lot of americans go to bar bollywood in mayfair aswell (get off at green park station and head for dover street), I dunno why they do i think its small and crap!

By the way what are the good seats for watching Bombay Dreams? Between 'Stalls' & 'Circle' which are the better seats?

stalls are in the middle on ground level in front of the stage, the rows stretch back pretty far, the circle over hang the stalls so some circle seats are (higher) and closer to the stage then the stalls at the back.

Avoid the stalls at the back, I'd avoid the circle altogether and go for stalls in the low numbers near the front

Orchestral stalls are waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too close avoid!

Watch out for thieves. Loads of them in London. Do not flash your mobile phone, and if you have any females travelling with you make sure they dont wing purse/handbags over their backs.

There are loads of immos from east europe roaming london thieving for a living.

Besides that I hope you enjoy your stay.
