Ummm, no, because then they would be trade analysts, not film reviewers.

Agreed, if they are just reviewing a film.

But if they are predicting popularity of a film, they should consider whether a film will be liked by masses or by elite only. Once in a blue moon, a movie may be liked by, both, the masses, as well as, by the people who think themselves as elite.

The uninhibited skin show by the two lady leads in Suneel Darshan's Andaaz has emerged a sure winner. Exhibitor Suman Sinha says his theatre in Patna hasn't seen such glorious days for the last two years.

"The surprising thing is the strong presence of family audiences. If men love watching Priyanka Chopra and Lara Dutta in the briefest of clothes, so do the women and kids," says Sinha.

Bottom Line: Sequences in Andaaz were not vulgar (one sequence comes close to ID as vulgar, but becomes OK as a light comedy sequence), where as Hindi films often contain vulgar scenes.

So that's why you liked it so much :bash:

IMO, trade analysts should stick to tracking the raw gross income of a film and reviewers should just review it. It doesn't take a genius to figure out whether a film will play to the masses or elites.

THREE CHEERS

The film industry is gradually limping back to normalcy. With ISHQ VISHK faring well [at big centres mainly] and ANDAAZ opening to an excellent start all over, people within the film industry have started smiling again.

Coming to the point, what actually helped ANDAAZ take a flying start at the ticket window? Three reasons, in my opinion –

[i] The curiosity to see the two title holders – Miss Universe Lara Dutta and Miss World Priyanka Chopra – perform in a movie.
[ii] Nadeem-Shravan's popular soundtrack.
[iii] The striking promos and an aggressive publicity campaign of the film.

It has been observed over the years that a fresh cast does excite the audience who are being subjected to watching 40 plus heroes still playing college students and 30 plus heroines still behaving like 16-year-olds.

That explains why the success stories of this year have youth as the common factor – TUJHE MERI KASAM, JISM, ISHQ VISHK and now ANDAAZ.

ANDAAZ may not boast of a commendable story, but credit must go to director Raj Kanwar who delivers what the Hindi film audience expects from a film like this. The film has several interesting moments in the second half, notable among them being Lara's re-emergence on the scene, and a clapworthy climax [reminded me so much of Raj Kapoor's PREM ROG].

From the reports pouring in from across the country, ANDAAZ looks like a winner all over, spelling the end of the dry run for the world's largest film factory.

The film is faring exceedinly well everywhere [its best business should be in the Hindi belt] and after a long time, the theatrewalas are displaying the 'House Full' boards outside their theatres

Hope For The Industry

http://www.planetbollywood.com/BoxOffic ... 181232.php

Film
Andaaz

Summary
The movie had a good opening across India and it is good news for the producer Suneel Darshan as he is distributing t it himself. The opening ranged from 90-100 % across India for the week end.

The movie has attracted the family audience specially from the second day onwards and if it is patronized by them, which most trade people think will happen then success is not far. Andaaz has had the best weekend this year in Bangalore, film open to packed houses at nine theatres in the city last Friday. The weekend collections were excellent. Ajanta and Rex were houseful for all shows on all the three days.

Final Verdict For a Flight to Boredom film :
The 10 crore movie has many plus points, its second half, music and good performance by the lead actors. The direction by Raj Kanwar specially in the second half has also contributed to the reception of the movie. Though it is in its early days, the movie is expected to do well at the box office.

The movie has attracted the family audience specially from the second day onwards attests to what I said that it's not Vulgar. Glamour, Yes.

Rana

P.S.
BTW
ARMAAN report:

The 18 crore venture Film by Dinesh Gandhi and also distributed by him has good business restricted to Metro´s and big cities.
Final Verdict
The venture will have a loss of at least 5 crores

If Armaan too costed 10 crore like Andaaz, this too would have made a profit and hence a hit.
So the difference between a hit and a flop is, how much the people involved in the project charge for their effort based on what they think they are worth.

Andaaz

What A Waste!...ooops..B4U

Director: Raj Kanwar
Producer: Suneel Darshan
Music: Nadeem Shravan
Cast: Akshay Kumar, Priyanka Chopra and Lara Dutta
Rating: * *

By Parag Chandrabala Maniar

After the debacle of Talaash, Suneel Darshan tries his luck once again with Khiladi Kumar; this time as a producer; this “emotional” caper has been directed by Raj Kanwar. Sadly Kanwar could not do much about this film that has a script as old as the hills. The film begins with tomboy Kaajal (Lara Dutta) playing football with a group of boys. She happens to meet the crippled Raj (Akshay Kumar). The duo hit it off instantly thanks to the common passion that they share—of model airplanes. But how does a crippled hero fly an airplane? It is time then to include a scene that will force the hero to do away with the crutches; to show that he can stand on his two feet literally. It is only the heroines shriek that can make him run. It actually does! If only all the crippled had to use similar method! Next we have Raj playing football with a group of college kids that looks absolutely unconvincing and funny.

Raj enrolls himself in the Indian Air Force just because Kaajal wants him to. Meanwhile she also loses her heart out to Karan Singhnia (Aman Varma). When Raj learns about Kaajal’s love for Karan, he is absolutely heartbroken. So what have we—the Indian Air Force air dashes Raj to South Africa for further training. Here Raj meets Jiya (Priyanka Chopra) who falls head over heels in love with him. Raj of course refuses to fall prey to his advances. But the fiery Jiya does not give up. She pursues her passion for him till he finally relents. Raj and Jiya finally decided to marry.

What follows is the so predictable kahani mein twist! Jiya happens to be Kaajal’s sister-in-law!

Andaaz in its content has nothing new to offer. The pre-interval are absolutely boring and mundane, the songs only hamper the pace of the film that are there just for the heck of it. The film picks up only towards the climax which does not take you by surprise. Akshay Kumar as Raj is mediocre. One expected a lot from him especially after hits like Awara Paagal Deewana and Aankhen. Lara Dutta makes an impressive debut! But the one to walk away with the cake is Priyanka Chopra because the film has given her the platform to show a gamut of emotions ranging from a girl in love to a woman obsessed. She has balanced her character perfectly. Sadly one can’t say that about the film! Skip it!

Poor : *
Strictly OK : * *
Average : * * *
Good : * * * *
Excellent : * * * * *

So the reviewers didn't like Andaaz and you did - get over it. Everyone has their own opinion about movies, and it's a well known fact that bad movies like Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai have done well in the past, and good movies like Lamhe have crashed. Andaaz being successful at the moment doesn't prove anything - you liked the movie, fair enough. It doesn't mean that everyone who has slated the movie is wrong just cos it's earning money.

Whether public liked or not suneel darshan made money in HMBPK, Talaash and in Andaaz too. All due to heavy publicity and and good music. All the movie producers in India treats public as dumb and they prove the same again and again
