Jee Aayan Nu is playing in a theater here this week, so it may be playing elsewhere. If there are English subtitles I will go see it.

I'm sure English sub-titles will be on. I don't think you'll need them if you know Hindi.

BTW, Politically correct word is Tamil. The province Madras has been named Tamilnadu and old name Madras city has been named Chennai. Like Bombay changed to Mumbai and Puna changed to Pune.

BTW, Pune reminds me; in one of the recent news casts by an Indian broadcaster pronounced (repeatedly) Pune as 'Pune like pure' and not 'Pune like Punay'

I guess DragunR2 knows Hindi too. Indian Punjabi movies, including JAN, are mostly Hindicized Punjabi.

Well, yaar it might be pOLITICALLY CORRECT, as u said, But u can live in mADRAS and speak, possibly TAMIL/TELUGU, or some other Southern language? I meant was SOUTH INDIAN language!!

I am a PEDAISHI PUNJABI and IMHO, JAN used STRICTLY NON ENGLISH, VERY PURE INDIGENOUS PUNJABI!! that MOST OF THE TIME, TAMIL/HINDI speakers, might find difficult to understand!!

Let DRagun be the JUDGE, if he has seen this film without subs, and Tamil, his first language, hindi, eng, second, how much he was able to understand this film..

On the other hand, I agree, If URBAN PUNJABI is used, that is MIXTURE of Punjabi , Hindi, English, it flows a bit smoother on NON PUNJABI, Hindi speaking audience!!

But this is only MHO!

BTW!! have u seen BADHAI HO BADHAI, that MADRASI SARDAR, as KADER KHAN calls him,. ROCKS, as Anil's SIDEKICK!

Well technically my first language is English, then Tamil, but I know some Hindi. I couldn't find a phone number for the theater to call them, so I sent them an email asking about the subtitles. I asked the theater a while back about getting some films besides the usual mainstream fare, so maybe this is why they're showing JAN.

Faddy, in the US, I haven't seen Punjabi films playing in theaters in my area. I don't know why, as there must be a large Punjabi population here. The first theater here shows Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam films here with some regularity, so why not Punjabi films? :hmm:
