Bollywood actor, producer in Iraq medical team

New Delhi, April 4

Bollywood film-maker Mahesh Bhatt and film actor turned politician Raj Babbar will join an Indian medical emergency team preparing to leave for Iraq, they said on Thursday.

"We have received permission from the government of Iraq and the team will be going via Damascus," said Babbar, who is also a member of Parliament.

Bhatt, a director known for his controversial films, said the Bollywood pair would be on board an Air India flight by the end of next week with doctors and paramedics planning to carry 100 tonnes of medicine to Iraq.

The doctors are being sent to Iraq on an aid mission by the Jamiat-Ulama-i-Hind, an Islamic organisation and a private satellite television network, Jain TV.

The 50-member medical team that includes doctors from the humanitarian relief organisation, the Red Crescent, will drive down to now-encircled Baghdad from Damascus.

Six Muslim clerics and five Indian businessmen are already in Jordan ready to go into Iraq and act as human shields. They will also ferry food and medicines with them for the Iraqi people.

What do u say about this?

Mahesh Bhatt turns down invitation to Spanish film festival

Writer-director Mahesh Bhatt has turned down an invitation to Las Palmas de Gran International Film Festival, being held in Spain between March 28 and April 5, in protest against the Spanish government’s support of the ongoing US and UK-led military attack on Iraq. In a letter addressed to festival director Luis Miranda, Bhatt wrote: “I am certain that you will agree with me that this is no time to hold film festivals when the world is on the brink of disaster. It is absurd to even pretend that movies can change human nature. If they did, this world would be a paradise. Moreover, since your government is an architect of this human disaster, I find it revolting to accept your hospitality. Sorry, I cannot be a part of this film festival while American and British troops, aided by your government, bomb and kill helpless women and children in Iraq.”

While I am certainly a supporter of Bhatt's political ideology, but this argument can surely be argued.

I think that's incredibly stupid. First off, there is a war going on, but does that mean we stop every single daily routine of our lives? I don't see the traders in Wall Street stopping... if he holds true to his political ideology, he should stop making films until everything is perfectly okay. Second, in what position is he to criticize people the way he does? If he cares so much about the Iraqi civilians, why is he against getting rid of Hussein? (I suppose that could be argued, I'll stop that end here). It just seems that he is trying to get attention and take advantage of the current political climate.

Good call. And come to think of it, its really ironic that he(Mahesh Bhatt) basically wants the world to stop what there doing and pray for those in need, and yet -- all while he's the man behind all the Hollywood(an AMERICAN movie industry) to Bollywood rip-offs produced by the notorious Bhatt family in Mumbai, India.

Yey! Let's show the Americans that we won't be stomped on!

Mahesh Bhatt is the most outspoken, passionate, and courageous in Bollywood. He speaks like no one else. And especially when it's American related, it's just beautiful!
