I use to love watching the episodes of Vikram Aur Betaal on tv when I use to live in India when I was very young. When I first moved to Canada, I remember a few video locations that carried this film on VHS. Any luck of this serial being on DVD or even VCD?

Artsh Miyan... that movie was Pataal Bhairavi with a number song by Salma Agha (Jhumma chumma chumma chumma mujhko bana de priyatamma :D)

What DVD_C is asking is abt a TV serial which was produced by the Sagar's

Vikram mmmmmm Betaal allllllll Vikram mmmmmm Betaal allll

Vikram aur betaal Vikram aur betaal...

"Bata Vikram varna mein tere sar ke tukde tukde kar doonga"...
(which was spoofed by Satish Shah later on...as Bata Chakram varna mein tere sar ke tukde tukde kar doonga..)

DVD_C I dont think its available on VCD or DVD

I remember this serial.. it had arun govil (later to play Ram in Ramayan) as Vikram and Sajjan or something as Baital.... it used to start at the same point every episode with vikram catching baital on his shoulders and i think vikram had to stay silent throughout or else baital would fly away .then baital used to tell him a story and basically towards the end vikram would end up speaking and baital would fly away again. some of the stories were very good.

Asian Video in Toronto is your best bet for the answers. If it's DVD is released, it would have been by them.

I remember Vikram Betaal, never ending monthly serial in Chanda Mama. To get rid of Betaal King Vikram is supposed to carry Betaal, on his shoulders, to the graveyard , stay silent till he reaches there but he must answer honestly if he knows the answer. (Isn't this what happens in interogations??) This way in every episode Betaal (ghost) tells a puzzling a story, asks a puzzling philosophical question and the wise Vikram has to break his silence as he knows the answer.

Great philosophy teachings for the kids.

As Vikram broke the silence, Betaal goes back to the original spot from where King Vikram wants Betaal to get rid of.

Rana

BTW, I think Ramayan came first and then Vikram Betaal.

It's like a dream when thinking about this Chanda Mama stories. I used to love these stories like most of the kids do. I grown up in a small village and a regular to a local library, read many many books about kings, mysteries and even numerous books on Ramayan and MAHABHARAT.

I never ever consider watching a Hindi movie or Teleplay of this kind of stories, as they do not truly present, what I have imagined through reading of all these books from many years.
Only Telugh and Tamil fantasy movies with proper costumes and dialogues looked all right for me. Of course these are my personnel thoughts

I believe BR CHOPRA'S MAHABHARAT TV SERIAL is truly a great epic in its own right as the costumes, dialogues and even the settings are truly breathtaking. I know that MAHABHARAT team consulted NTR before doing the serial for an advise on costumes.

I think BR Chopra's MAHABHARATA began well and then slowly slipped into the mediocre...to my mind the one tele serial that was authentic and really good was CHANAKYA - researched, scripted and directed by Dr.Chandraprakash Dwivedi...who's incidentally now making PINJAR, the Amrita Pritam novel starring Matondkar (bad choice IMHO) and Manoj Bajpai....

The only other teleserial that was even better researched and dramatised was Shyam Benegal's BHARAT EK KHOJ...suberb opening chanting of the hymns from the Rig Veda and then followed by the Hindi translations of the same by the late Vasant Deo (lyricist of Karnad's UTSAV)......can you even forget the fabulous RAMAYANA, MAHABHARATA and SHIVAJI episodes.....Naseeruddin Shah made for a majestic Shivaji...shot on locations of the forts in the Deccan Plataeu, I sometimes wonder why Shyam Benegal does not make a full fledged movie out of any of those historical episodes...i believe he can do total justice to the same....
