got the jist of it from the PB forum, but i thought i would do a bit of research on the topic...

now it would seem that we have a GERMAN movie that is COPIED from INDIA!!?!!
--read on:

Beyond Silence(Jenseits der Stille):
Released: 19 December 1996.
Plot: Since the earliest days in her childhood Lara has had a difficult but important task. Both her parents are deaf-mute and Lara has to translate from sign-language to the spoken word and vice versa when her parents want to communicate with other people. Getting older and more mature she becomes interested in music and starts to play clarinet very successfully. However her parents are deaf, they cannot share Lara's musical career. The day comes when Lara has to decide between her parents and her own ambitions.

Khamoshi
Released: 9 August 1996
Plot:Annie is the daughter of Joseph and Flavy, both deaf-mute. She grows up among a string of tragedies, including the death of her grandmother Marie Briganza and her brother. The handicaps of her parents force her to mature well ahead of her time. Meeting with Raj into her adulthood she finds her talent for singing and love for music. But she wants approval from her parents - how does she make her parents aware of her music?

---

if you've watched khamoshi then you know that the plot is actually more similar to the one given for beyond silence(atleast to me!)....so is this copying, or a very eerie coincidence! (bcuz khamoshi was released before it...)

I remember reading an interview of Sanjay Leela Bhansali in a magazine where he talked about the two films and how similar they...that it was remarkable that two people were thinking of the same thing at the same both opposite sides of the globe...

Fred, do u mean the movie itself or the dvd? Movie is good, nice songs and emotive scenes, but nowhere near as good as Devdas. Devdas is a masterpiece in my opinion, in the league of classics like Pakeezah!

It's a really good film. The acting is a bit OTT in a few scenes IMHO - but it's way more understated than Devdas.

In my opinion, Khamoshi is Sanjay Bhansali's most subtle film packed with visual beauti and invigorating performances from the entire cast(even Salman Khan). Not only that, it has a fantastic musical score by Jatin-Lalit which is strongly induced by Bhansali's creativity. I have yet to see its "supposidly" remake of a german film, but more or less I feel Bhansali's Khmoshi is a great film.
