Excerpts:

Stage is set for glittering Filmfare night
REKHA DIXIT

TIMES NEWS NETWORK[ THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 20, 2003 12:56:03 AM ]

—the 48th Annual Manikchand Filmfare Awards-2002.

The big event will be held at the MMRDA grounds in the Bandra-Kurla complex on February 21.

Under the direction of noted art director Nitin Desai, the creator of those lavish Devdas sets, 16,000 light bulbs are being painstakingly set to create a unique backdrop. "These bulbs will act like a mammoth liquid crystal display screen, flashing images and graphics throughout the show," he says, promising to provide a background as lively as the action onstage.

A troupe of dancers perfects the steps for the superhit Kavita Krishnamurthy-Shreya Ghosal duet Dola re from Devdas .Of course, on the big night, Aishwarya Rai will be the star of this show.

A huge mirrored ball is being hooked onto the scaffolding atop the stage. On the grand evening, this ball will serve as Yana Gupta's carriage. No prizes for guessing that Yana will dance to the Babuji zara dheere chalo, sizzler from Dum. --- performances by Shilpa Shetty and current teen heart-throb Vivek Oberoi.

Shah Rukh Khan will host the evening. Incidentally, there is a special prize awaiting him—the Swiss Filmfare award. The prize was instituted by the Swiss consulate last year as a tribute to the Indian film industry, one of the best tourism promoters for that Alpine country.

Geraldine Chaplin, daughter of Charlie Chaplin and playwright Oona O'Neill, will present that award.

The British deputy high commission will felicitate producer Yash Johar, whose recent releases, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Kabhie Khushi Kabhi Gham, have captured the idyllic English countryside in 70 mm.

--- films as varied as the action-packed underworld saga Company, the romantic classic Devdas, the multi- starrer Kaante, the thriller Humraaz and the suspense-packed Raaz vying for the top honours.

QUESTION:
The British deputy high commission will felicitate producer Yash Johar, whose recent releases, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Kabhie Khushi Kabhi Gham, have captured the idyllic English countryside in ----------70 mm.??????

Were these 70mm films??

No...they were not. It's just become a way of referring to big films. It's stupid.

Amisha Patel came on BBC Asian Radio this morning and had a rant about the awards. Apparently they are rigged, officials are corrupt, receiving back handers and that Amir Khan has avoided the awards for a number of years because of this. She was going well until she brought up Gadar, saying that it should have won something last year. At which point she was abruptly cut off

who won the best music director award?

I don't think this year was a very good year for good films. I don't think any of the films released this year would be called excellent. they were average or slightly above average thats all.

filmfare awards never go on good films...... it only goes by hit films...... a hit film may not necessarily be a good film....
imo ajay devgan deserved the award more than shahrukh kahn.... he had some brilliant performances in company, LOBS and Deewangee.... btw who won best villain?

I hate these awards:
1) Karan Johar has NEVER picturised Switzerland in either KKHH or K3G, so he's getting an undeserved award.

2) Does Devdas really deserve all those awards and Company doesn't?

3) Rani Mukherjee deserves Best Critics Award Actress alone. Wot did Manisha do in Company to have to share it with her?

On a positive note:
1) BEST MUSIC WENT TO SAATHIYA! YES!

2) Saathiya (6) and Company (5) won awards.

3) No awards went to Kaante!

I'll wait for the DVD of the awards, which will be out in March!
