It is an intresting notion? For the past year while BEI have been slow in releases which company do you think has set the new benchmark for decent DVD quality?

Many praise Shermeroo for their work over the much over priced Yash Raj film titles? So do they now set the new benchmark?

Which company do you think and why?

Sunny unfortunately no one.. Shemaroo's quality is definately is not the benchmark for DVd quality. Compared with that a pathetic film like "Dhanna Jat" released by BEI.. is still the benchmark for DVD quality.
Maybe if Mongrel media comes up with a decent version of Bollywood Hollywood, then that benchmark can be accepted !

What abt the BFI releases of "Meghe Daka Taara" ?( I think Bhaskar posted the screenshots somewhere.. I may be mistaken here)

If its a Benchmark, it has to be consistent quality and sufficient # of titles. While Shemaroo is the only one at the moment releasing reasonable # of titles and pleasing to eye picture on interlaced sets, it is no where close to be acceptable. I would rather prefer some of Super Digital's single layered (low bit rate) DVDs over Shemaroo's field averaged DVD of the same title. If Shemaroo did a proper Cine-tel, i.e. no field averaging, then Shemaroo may come close.

Recently, Super Digital has released only 2 titles under their own name which can be called Bench Mark. But just two titles is not enough to call it a bench mark. Super Digital has done many DVDs for their clients, but for those DVDs they are limited by the source given to them. They did demonstrate their capability with ABHINETRI and 54 Songs DVD. If we ignore # of titles, then BEI already is a benchmark. Similarly CT and Metrodome have released one or two DVDs that are excellent.

There is one Embarrasing Benchmark as well. Consider 2 in 1 pirate of MANN (second movie in the disc is Sirf Tum). Mann was copied from the now extinct EROS batch that was Progressive. Later batches of EROS's Mann are interlaced and this Pirate is Progressive and better than EROS's Anamorphic DVD in circulation now.

I think I have an older, or maybe a basic version of Power DVD (it came installed on my computer). The option for force weave isn't there on my version (I know where to find it - I've seen it on the uni computers). However, I do have a frame rate indicator on my version - and whenever it says 29.97, I assume that DVD to be interlaced.

Also, not sure whether it is PAL or NTSC - will have to double check....but think it might be NTSC Region 0.
