i know "love story" is an old film, but i just saw it not too long ago and i instantly fell in love with the movie and kumar gaurav. how old was he in that film? also, where can i find the instrumental music that was played in the very beginning of 'love story' with the credits?

i know he's not very popular anymore, nor was ever :oo: but i heard he was in "star," so i was just wondering if i should see that film or not. what are your opinions? i've asked the hindi video stores around here if they had that movie, but unfortunately, they don't. :( so i was wondering if anybody knows where i can find it online?

I think KG was around 22-23 when he starred in Love Story...he was actually pretty popular around and afer its release......his subsequent films were the ones that did him in....STAR was one of them....he was quite a talented actor but his choice of roles alas remained rather poor. he tried staging a late comeback with his association with Mahesh Bhat and acted in movies like NAAM and JANAM. NAAM catapulted his bro-in-law Sanjay Dutt to fame whereas JANAM was a TV film that won him rave reviews, but did nothing for his film career.

His lack of screen presence also did not help much since he never did have that imposing personality (not to say Aamir Khan does but he projects it larger than life with a good use of voice modulation). All in all, KG was a pretty dumb actor for whom stardom just happened and faded away....

The STAR dvd btw is available online......

'Love STory' was from 1981, and I saw it many times in the '80s. Unfortunately, the leading lady Vijayata Pandit didn't get great roles after this. It was the film that most college-going young people and schoolkids adored. Most of us knew the songs even though we were very young. I think Kumar was 19 when he made this, the heroine was older? I like this movie much more than the one that came after this - 'Betaab' starring Sunny Deol and Amrita Singh.

EROS-B4U release.

Actually, I liked the movie. It has great music and songs by Nazia Hasan and her brother.

Now I understand rana why you are promoting this DVD :D

Sarcasm aside, I would like to have this DVD in my collection if it has a semi-decent audio-video. I don't expect a Progressive transfer from EROS-B4U, but will be happy with a Pseudo-prog print. I hope the DVD is made from film and not from a VHS.

If someone gets it, could you please comment on its PQ and post screen caps if possible.

Thanks.

Rana i presume this film, will most likely be similar to that of Khusboo.. Eros prints (of old films) are made from a beta master.. which makes them automatically interlaced

So this is a curtain-raiser ! The rest can be explained if someone is willing to be the Bakra..

Bhasker thou listening ? :D

OK, first things first, I know it's hard for you to copy from a previous post, but my name isn't spelt with an 'e'. I did try to leave a subtle hint in the last reply, but it doesn't seem to have worked.

As for being a bakra - no need. If you lot had stop worrying about interlaced DVDs and dreaming of progressive ones, you would have noticed that Ali provided a review of the Star DVD, the link of which is still available on the Zulm main page:

Apologies... i often mistake ur name with names down South (and its written as Bhasker.. forgot that you are a Bong).. Unf that link does not give any indication if the dvd is interlaced or progressive ( and sorry.. I can even compromise on the audio front.. but not on the video.. I think Rana will also concur with me on this )

Thanks for the link Bhaskar. I didn't think, this film would have been reviewed. Actually it wasn't too long ago (only 3 months ago).

Anamorphic widescreen is best we can expect from EROS. I still have its songs on VHS. I'll see if the widescreen frame is obtained by adding on the sides and not by matting top and bottom of the 4:3 picture.

i agree. looks and talents gone to waste. sad, sad, sad.

kabir: vijayata pandit DOES look older than kumar gaurav in the film. i personally don't like her because i don't think she's that great of an actress. that's probably why she didn't get casted in many films afterwards. but i think she's much better than poonam. erruuggh! though out of the all movies i've seen so far, i say that kumar gaurav's better of with padmini.

rana:THANKS FOR THE LINK!!!! :D :;): i am going to rent it asap! :tounge:

thank you all for your replies! unlike other forums, i actually got help and information in return. thanks!

This guy's acting is boring. He seems like he's dry as the walls. No personality, just wooden.

Another good movie of Kumar Gaurav is TERI KASAM. Romantic pairing was Kumar Gaurav and Poonam Dhillom. Other pairing was, Naseeruddin Shah and Ranjeeta. KG and Ranjeeta are brother sisters and NS and Poonam are brother sisters and are married into each other's family after a few colorful dance-song sequences.

If I remember correctly, in STAR, Kumar Gaurav is paired with Rati Agnihotri and Raj Kiran is paired with Padmini Kolhapure.

Framing on my VHS copy (Esquire in those days, now EROS) is almost exactly the same as EROS DVD reviewed on zulm. AR is roughly 2:1.

P.S.
monizam, I liked Teri Kasam when I watched it in the 80s. Kumar Gaurav was a hot actor and so was Poonam Dhillon. The movie also has Naseeruddin Shah and Ranjeeta in parrallel roles.
