Finally a classic from Raj Kapoor which is given a somewhat decent treatment from YRF.

The good:
1) Transfer from original movie print which is complete. Running time 174 minutes.
2) With english subtitles also in songs.
3) Looks like a black & white movie not black & green.
4) Transfer is decent from a film print that appears in rather
good condition for a movie almost 42 years old. Regular wear & tear in the print but some scenes have no visible wear & tear.
5) Images sharp & clear most of the time.

The bad:

1) Mono sound processed for Dolby stereo. Original mono soundtrack should have been included in the disc.
2) Too much hissing in soundtrack at times.
3) Dark scenes lack detail.
4) Special features repeated from other Raj kapoor's releases from YRF.
5) No original trailer.
6) High pricing $16.99 & higher. Wait for Shemaroo's version to compare quality & pricing.
7) Movie has chapters but no listing inside DVD box.

So those who are interested finally one decent release from YRF.

Hi Lakeshore

Thanks for this - I also got this DVD. Initially I was worried that I had got a dud as the cover has the usual message about the DVD being sourced from a vintage print ... etc. But I was pleasntly surprised ... one point I noticed is that the sound slips out of synch very slightly. Did you notice this at all?

Thanks,

Muz.

Lakeshore, I noticed YRF has also released Raj Kapoor's Aah. Could you give a review of that disk ? Also, has RK's Barsaat been released by anyone?

Thanks, chaver.

Muz, yes soundtrack slightly out of sync in some scenes but not in the whole movie that could be due to original dubbing.
Like I stated earlier after Gumrah this one is another decent release from YRF. Wish they could have done the same with madhumati,Sangam, chaduvin ka chand & other's. Well you win some and loose some.

Chaver, I did view parts of Aah,what I viewed didn't impress me,also since I didn't view the entire DVD it will be unfair for me to make a call on this one.
