According to my communication with Ayngaran, The film Kaaka Kaaka was recently shown to Madras Talkies Production (headed by Mani Ratnam), who was intrested in purchasing the South India and Sri Lanka rights. The film was applauded by the director for being a brillient commercial film and bidded quite high for the film. The film is directed by Gautam, who directed the excellent Minnale and the failed and poor Hindi remake RHTDM.

The film starts Suyra (Naandha) and Jothika (Dumm Dumm Dumm & Kushi) and has music by Harris Jayaraj.

From the trailers the film does look stunning and the score released on CD is turly as good as Minnale songs. Here is hoping for anotehr excellent film from the director. I will see if I can upload the trailer on this forum.

tripod has bandwith limits :ffs:

sunny, a good idea would to create numerous accounts at tripod.com so that when one account uses up its bandwith, we can go to another.

Gautham to direct KK in Hindi!

Friday, 22 August , 2003, 09:52

By Moviebuzz

Gautham Menon seems to have struck gold with his police story Kaakha Kaakha, which is turning out to be mega hit.

Feroz Khan, the Hindi actor and producer has purchased the Hindi remake rights of Kaakha Kaakha for a whopping price and has requested Gautham to direct it. The rumour is that the director who was initially reluctant to direct the film in Hindi has agreed after being promised a fancy amount.

Gautham had earlier made statement that he will never direct a film in Hindi after the Rehna Hai Tere Dil Main fiasco. This film was a remake of his own Minnale, a blockbuster in Tamil.

The Hindi film will have Feroz's son Fardeen in the lead role of ACP, which Surya had made memorable! The makers are trying to rope in Preity Zinta to do the role of Jyothika.

However the surprise element is that the music of Harris Jayaraj, which was one of the major highlights of Kaakha Kaakha will not be used in the Hindi remake and instead, Sandeep Chowta will be the music director.

I saw this movie lasdt weekend (or, was it a week before that) at Mayfair theatre that has excellent DTS sound. As always with my luck, this time too they received a DTS disc but for a different film.

Anyway, they ran it with back-up audio track. Unlike previous occasions, the sound was excellent and had deep Bass. I asked the projectionist, why the sound had not been as good in previous screenings using Back-up audio tracks. He said, "They didn't know before that their projection system was equipped for DSR (he called it Dolby Spectral Recording)". Although it's not Dolby Digital (he called it Dolby Spectral Recording Digital), it's still lot better than Mono.

Does his explanation of DSR and DSRD (DD) seem right?? BTW, audio that was DSR was mainly coming from front speakers only. I didn't notice any rear speaker sound.

BTW, I really enjoyed the film (even without sub-t, I had no difficulty understanding the plot or emotions) for its excellent projection and audio. DTS would have been even better.

Dolby Spectral Recording Digital, or Dolby SR-D, was how Dolby Digital was listed in the end credits of earlier DD films. DD and Dolby SR-D are the same thing. Dolby SR is the optical track, an improved version of Dolby Stereo.
