I agree with the point one reviewer made that the parallel between the Vivek/Rani couple and the older couple in the film (I won't spoil the cameos) could have been made clearer. If the second couple had been somewhat older, like Arvind Samy and Khusboo in Alai Payuthey, the point would have been made that the husband was willing to do anything for the wife.

this was totally lost on me in the movie. i didn't see the connection between the two couples. but overall, this movie was definitely in my top 5 for the year. maybe it's only because i'm gonna marry rani mukherji, but i'm sure the acting, music and cinematography had something to do with it.

My take on the parallel between the Madhavan/Shalini couple and the Arvind Samy/Khushboo couple in the original is that the latter have been together longer, and Arvind Samy is willing to take on an enormous burden to spare his wife from any punishment, which is kind of foreshadowed in the "Will you jump off a train for me?" dialogue in both Alai Payuthey and Saathiya. The second couple is what Vivek and Rani could become, and by casting the actors that were cast for the second couple, the parallel was somewhat lost in the remake.

I haven't heard from any of my neighbours who saw KAANTE, but have heard from many who have seen SAATHIYA on DVD/ VHS. Everybody is raving about how lovely a film it is. Looks like, Saathiya is gaining on Kaante through Word By Mouth publicity. I wish it comes out in a decent DVD and/ or I get to see it in theatre.

The present YRF DVD seems to be a PAL to NTSC converted Interlaced DVD with averaged fields. How worst could it get??
