These are films that have disturbed me to such an extent that I would literally avoid watching them again for the rest of my life.

Hollywood:- 8MM (a film about the life & crimes of the underworld pornographic film industry)
Indian:- Chandni Bar (Although I think its contextually brilliant, but its realistically disturbing)

NO movie is sick or disturbing enough for me, I can take ANYTHING :D

However, for the people interested in sick and disgusting, you may want to take notice of Japanese director Takashi Miike. Two of his films will definately make you cringe in your seats.

1. Audition (Hint: the last 20 mins will definately offend you)

and of course

2. ICHI THE KILLER - STAY FAR FAR AWAY FROM THIS MOVIE (which i personally thought was the 3rd best film of last year!!)

And yeah, you may wanna avoid "Salo" aswell....

As for Hindi, well there isn't anything disturbing, BUT Kaash and Chandni Bar were two really really depressing movies.

Ichi The Killer is class, sick, but classy! :sus: I've not seen Audition, will have to hunt it down. Another Hong Kong flick which was banned in many countries was The Untold Story starring Anthony Wong - most disturbing bit is that is based on a true story! The movie story of Ted Bundy was pretty chilling.

I've yet to come across a Indian film was even remotely disturbing. Hmmm actually thinking about it, K3G was pretty disturbing the way the aggregated bogus crying was considered acting :p – spine chillingly disgraceful and disturbing ???

I would agree 8MM is a very disturbing film that will haunt you for a long time. In indian films i find Lajja very disturbing as it potrays a womans vulnerability in our society.

amongst hindi methinks CHAKRA(Rabindra Dharmaraj 1981), CHANDNI BAR & BANDIT QUEEN were depressing/disturbing all rolled into one....

If we are talking about disturbing films, one recent film I found to be very very gruesome was SHAKTI (Karisma, Nana Patekar). It could be realistic, however just too garish in terms of violence, specially agains women.

It was a good movie with good performances however.

Out of American films I found Calligula to be quite disturbing with scenes of incest, necrophila, rape, disturbing violence etc... The violence and sexual scenes was used to glorify the era the film is set in and not actual used to tell the story, like the way the excellent film Titus (Antony Hopkins/Jessica Lange) did.

Another film that disturbed me was Bully. I cringed in my cinema seat during many of its scenes.

actually some of the 80s Indian movies by the arthouse crowd were pretty damn disturbing - these usually starred Naseeruddin Shah, Om Puri, Shabana Aazmi, and Deepti Naval.

Don't know the titles, but these were extremely gritty films, very depressing in nature and featured extremely offensive themes.

So if you guys get offended by obscene rape scenes like the ones in Dushman or Prem Granth, watch out!!

(no offense Arsh bhai!)

and oh yeah by modern definition, I guess Lajja was pretty damn offensive and disturbing. I know that Rekha scene towards the end caused alot of families to walk out at Woodside Cinemas.

Caligula I think is a joint american-italian film. It was directed by both an Italian and an American porn magazine owner (who alo distributed it under his label) I think it was Penthouse. Yes, this was distrubing and the rarely seen uncensored version is even more, as it contains a scene of OS (work it out). And the censors had trouble back then as they could't make up their mind of wether or not it was porn or historical drama, because in the 'name of art' you can show 'so-and-so'. Nevertheless, I think it was X-rated.

Another similar film was A Clockwork Orange.

Out of Indian films Chandni Bar was probably most disturbing, especially the male-rape scene. That was so unexpected! I didn't think Bandit Queen was as bad as people made out, I expected it to be much worse.

ali,

I think with K3G, it was more annoying than disturbing. These bollywood film overdoes it with the crying, and I honestly have never come across any individuals or families that cry so much as shown in these films. They cry too much it becomes quite sickening in the end, for example I remember a friend telling me when he saw KKHH, some people sitting in front walked out before the end because they couldn't stand the amount of crying.
