may be even doing HI-DEF transfers, etc, etc

I always wonder if Hi Def transfer is any better or worst??

In my opinion, Direct Film to NTSC (720 x 480) transfer and then straight replication is the best for present say NTSC (720x480) DVDs.

I think Hi Def transfer means Film to Hi Def (720P i.e. 1440x768 progressive, 1080i i.e. 1920x1440 interlaced or any other HD format) transfer and then another transfer from HD to NTSC for a NTSC DVD. Extra transfer, I think, is un-neccessary and will degrade PQ??

Film to HD transfer is good for HD DVD.

What do you think Michel, Ali, Ganti, ---??

Film to HD to NTSC is the procedure for most major Hollywood DVDs. I believe this allows for more control of color correction and other manipulations of the image, since HD has a higher color space than NTSC. Doing one HD transfer and downconverting to NTSC and PAL is probably cheaper than telecining the film twice in NTSC and PAL.

Judging by the Hollywood DVDs, the Film to HD transfer is of such high quality that HD to digital will yield an excellent NTSC or PAL transfer. Does anyone know if Lagaan and Mission Kashmir got HD transfers? If these films ever show up on HBO-HD, they might be 1080i!

I seriously doubt that the quality will improve. DEI in the last year or so had started using cheapo silver media plus they had absolutely gone insane with their forced self promotion commercials and as for their disabling the DVD player controls the less said the better. IF thier last few DVDs is the kind of stuff we are going to get from BEI, then quite honestly I would rather they stay shut down.

How do we know that BEI will be releasing new movies/DVDs, and not just re-releasing old DEI DVDs?

Rana,
I am with Dragun in this. Right now I can remember at least one movie I.e. Black Hawk Down which states 'From HD master'. And on my system it does look equally good compared to other well done transfers.
