I noticed that some of you have the same problem as me with dvd's freezing up in places.

The worst is , when you've watched them a couple of times, and then they're fine, but then suddenly they freeze up in places, which obviously by that time, its too late to return them, why does this happen? is it just wear and tear?

also, is there any way of repairing this, perhaps by cleaning them, or will that not help?

This is a problem of poor quality media used for these DVDs. I am sorry to say but no amount of cleaning or repairing will fix these disks. My suggestion is to just avoid buying DVDs from certain companies. The worst offender being Video Sound, every single DVD of theirs in the last 2 yrs has stopped working for me. Other companies to avoid are Tips and to an extent Spark.

Videosound seem to be leading when it comes to bad dvd's. the picture starts freezing after its played for about 2 or 3 times. so far my Aankhen dvd by Videosound seems fine even though its been used quiet a lot since i got it. i know its only a matter of time before it meets its fate :ffs:

Spam master Jolly sent a email once (revealing most of his customer emails in the process :rolleyes: ) about a DVD cleaning kit called Dr. Fix It - I don't know how well these work (if they do work at all that is) - check it out here;

http://www.drfixit.net/

...sounds gimmicky to me :sus:

if it is bad media that is causing it then I wonder if somethin as unscientific as a hot-cold treatment may work? Mind you this is one of those crack-pot theories but I am going to try this on my DIL CHAHTA HAI disc which has gone bad. Put it out in the sun for a day and then shove it in the fridge....dont laff guys but i am THIS frustrated....agar media kharaab hai toh why not some extreme techniques to UNSETTLE it thus..... :angry:

I have tried several different DVD repair solutions, but none have really succeeded consistently, except for one, "SkipDR". For more info ---> http://www.digitalinnovations.com/index.html
I have had almost 95% success with this. But do keep in mind this success is with English/Hollywood DVDs and not Indian DVDs. In fact I have only been able to fix a couple of Indian DVDs using this, the rest of the Indian DVDs I have been unable to fix with anything. Actually to be more precise I have had no success, zilch, 0% with Indian DVDs using silver media. The few Indian DVDs I have been able to fix are ones that have Gold colored media, for eg. Ek Rishta, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham. Actually there are only 2 or 3 English DVDs that I have been unable to fix so far using SkipDR, whereas Indian DVDs are a different story all together. The fact that I have atleast 30 - 35 Indian DVDs that no longer work is an indication of the really poor media used by most Indian DVD manufacturers. These figures should also open up the eyes of those that still believe there is no difference between using gold and silver media. If you notice the only 2 Indian DVDs I have been able to fix are ones that have gold media.

Based on my experience with almost 60 - 70 disks that had gone bad and with various DVD repair kits, I have concluded and recommend, that:
1) Gold media is by far superior to Silver media.
2) DVDs with 2 layers (almost all Indian films) should always use Gold media.
3) Almost all English DVDs can be fixed with SkipDR, unless the damage is way out of the ordinary and/or the damage is on the data side (the side with the printing)
4) Don't waste your time and money trying to fix Indian DVDs, atleast not unless they are on gold media.
5) Don't waste your time with Dil Chahta Hai or any of the stupid Video Sound and Tips DVDs. Nothing can fix them, since the problem with them is the extremely poor quality media used and not some physical damage.

In conclusion, there is no repair kit that can fix the problems that occur due to bad/poor quality media including laser rot problems. But on the other hand if the problem is due to physical damage, ie. scratches etc, then they can almost always be fixed except in the rarest (extreme damage and/or damage to the data side) of cases.

PS: In the case of warped disks, no kit will work. Since almost all of these kits work on primarily resurfacing the disk.

Ali, I sure hope you are only kidding. I would not stick anything with metal or metal plating/polish in the microwave. I'm sure you are aware of the consequences, but I figured it won't hurt to point it out anyhow.
