pirate is not available yet

Quite possible.

It's a small film with limited prints (35) that are in circulation. I am sure producers/ distributors will guard them.

Is it really movie DVD or "audio CD - promo DVD combo" that has officially been released?? It's $ 8.99 at SD.

rana i don't really know.... I just saw the cover on a shelf - and it looked EXACTLY like the movie poster. And this was a typical Amaray DVD case.... most likely it's a pirate copy.

BOLLWOOD/HOLLYWOOD does a reverse on what Bollywood has been doing for years....ripping Hollywood stories....For a change Deepa Mehta rips of a typical Bollywood story and presents it in a Toronto milieu and my word it works rather well.....it HAS to be looked at as a tribute in a farcical fashion to the Bollywood style of film making...only then can one enjoy it....i had a ball since I was not expecting it to be so much fun...having been disappointed with FIRE and well EARTH was not earth shattering either.....certainly worth a dekho.....

****A must VIEW for Class Audience!

DEEPA MEHTA'S TOTALLY DIFFERENT MOVIE

By S Pankaj

Critic's-I-View

Everyone was waiting another hard-hitting and socio-contemporary movie from director Deepa Mehta. But her 'Bollywood Hollywood' is different from her earlier ones. Deepa leaves her past when everyone of her movie created a bundle of controversies; be it 'Fire', dealing with lesbianism or 'Earth', the partition drama where Aamir played sort of a villain. In 'Bollywood Hollywood', Deepa keeps away from any kind of dispute and presents an example for Hindi filmmakers as to how one can just leave one's own track and takes on with something totally different. There are not many filmmakers in India who have showed these kinds of guts barring Ram Gopal Verma whose every other film is a deviation from the previous one. This film's name is misleading, as it does not tell you what you are going to see in the darkness of theatre. As soon as the film unfolds one can make a judgment that while coining the film's name Deepa was referring to two kind of cultures i.e. western and Indian.

Rahul Khanna plays Rahul Seth in 'Bollywood Hollywood'. He is from a family settled in Canada. Rahul is a dynamic and a young rich brat who is neck deep in the western style of living. His pockets are always full of money that he has got from his ancestors and loves to throw party every time. He also loves to defy norms set by his family that consists of his mother (Moushumi Chatterjee) and grandmother (Dina Pathak). These family members want him to marry a girl who has roots in India, but Rahul is more than happy in the arms of a sexy looking and seducing Caucasian girlfriend Kimberly (Jessica Pare). Rahul's mother and grandmother do not like her. Kimberly is famous as a pop star (she is famous as colloquial Brintney Spears). Meanwhile, Kimberly dies in an accident. Rahul's life is devastated. He cannot think of anyone else. Rahul soon comes over the trauma and decides to play a game with his family members. He hires a girl Sue (Lisa Ray) to portray as his fiancée from India. Soon they fall in love. But Sue's past creates a problem. However, he decides this time not to let the girl slip of his grip so easily. The fun sets in and frolic goes on.

Deepa Mehta in 'Bollywood Hollywood' is not serious. She also does not take performers like Aamir, Nandita or Shabana who are known to give their best on the screen. Instead she settles for lesser-known faces like Rahul and Lisa. She just tries to bring in some kind of magical touch to the narration of the story and for the generation fed on seeing Hollywood and Bollywood flick with the same jeal, 'Bollywood Hollywood' just seems to be working. She may have taken her inspiration from Julia Robert's movie 'Pretty Woman'. She applies a lot of humility and class. Deepa Mehta could also make a comedy film like this, no one who has seen her earlier films would have even thought in his dreams. This is the sign of surviving the pressures and at the end of the day Deepa emerges a winner. The film is a must for those who thrive to see something different every time among class audience.

Lisa Ray surprises most with her abilities. She is so natural in all her scenes be it a thought provoking or just a hilarious one. Lisa carries her role like any seasoned actress. Like Lisa, 'Bollywood Hollywood' is the only second film of Rahul Khanna. Rahul has done a commendable job. But to lead all, is our beloved grandmother Deena Pathak. She died just after finishing her this role in the film. Her role in the film will be remembered forever.

Deepa Mehta has always been very careful while choosing her cast. So is the case in this movie. 'Bollywood Hollywood' has music of Sandeep Chowta, a new entrant in Deepa's camp and he too comes out with some novel tunes in songs. Every department of the film is well worked out and that makes this film a must watch.
