I got this DVD, which was done by the British Film Institute (BFI) this morning, and the movie is directed by Rikwik Ghatak. I haven't seen any other Black and White movies on DVD, so haven't really got anything to compare it to. It seems an ok DVD - there is quite a bit of wear and tear though, and it is interlaced. The movie is in Bengali with removable subtitles, and is NTSC, Region free (which makes me think they made this DVD to cater for the international market).

OK, to answer all the questions:

Arsh: - no, that isn't Leena Chandravarkar, I'm not sure what her name is, but the cast list on the DVD cover is made up of relative unknowns (well, I've never heard of them).

Shumanda - (I'm assuming you're older than me - I'm only 21!!)I got this DVD from play.com. I have seen it at a couple of the online stores I mentioned in an earlier thread which sell all the Bengali DVDs released, but the prices are pathetic (about $25 if I remember correctly!). It cost me £14.99

Also, Rikwik Ghatak's Meghe Dhaka Tara is also available on DVD from BFI (I meant to order that - ordered this one by mistake!)

I don't think so - the only two Bengali movies I can recall seeing are the two I've mentioned. But you never know, all Satyajit Ray movies may get a DVD release now that the Apu Triolgy is being released.

Ajantrik is by Ritwik Ghatak, and it is probably one of his most well known films. I can't find any of Ghatak's work on video at all, for sale or rent.

Oh. Ghatak is one of my favourites.
Does the DVD have a correct pulldown or are fields
averaged? Is it a PAL transfer transcoded to NTSC?
Who did the mastering?
cheers

I'm sorry Michel, but I'm not qualified enough to answer your questions! Everything I know about DVDs I learnt from zulm, and my knowledge of DVDs is still very basic. If you would like to explain how to understand the points you have mentioned from a 28 inch TV (if it is possible to do so) then I will happily try to answer your questions. As for the authoring, I can't remember seeing any information about it, but I will double check the disc/cover, and will post any information I find.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help,
Bhaskar

No she is Bangladeshi actress Rosie.

On the side note, how can I post images? I have some captures of the Bangla movie "Dui Duari"? Who do I have to send the images to?
